It's like that in our house ever week, falling about drunk, ????? No, if I get drunk, I usually sit on the floor in fit of giggles.:ccheers:

Terrible sign of the times, when nobody helped the drunk on the zebra crossing.

There are some right plonkers in this world, but when could we have a good laugh if they were not out there?:runforhills:

But if someone had helped, it would have been far less amusing.

Joking aside, I think people are nervous about helping people nowadays because gratitude has been replaced with the need to pin blame. When I was a young man about town and all that, once a week I used to get the last bus home from Middlesbrough, usually half full of beer. If you use the same bus regularly, you get to know the other regulars. One such was a young lady who got off two stops before me. She was usually steaming drunk. One time she was so drunk she was beyond disorderly, the driver, who knew his regulars, stopped at her stop and waited for her. Technically still awake, she was oblivious to reality, and just sat there. Driver shouted, and when that had no effect, I shook her gently by the shoulder. She slowly turned to look at me and grunted, 'ugghhhh????'. I said she was here, and she tried to get up, bounced several times off the inside of the bus, fall over a couple of times, and generally stumbled her way off the bus.

I thought to myself she is unfit to get herself home. It would hardly inconvenience me to also get off and escort her to her house and make sure she got in ok, before walking a few hundred yards home. I suggested this to the bus driver. He said, 'and what if she falls and bashes herself when you're the only one anywhere near her? What if she suddenly freaks in the middle of the street? Anything at all is going to look to other people like your fault.

Bus driver was right, so reluctantly we just left her to get on with it. I should have helped, because as the bus started to pull away after dropping her off, she chose that precise moment to fall against the now moving bus. Driver stopped and checked, and she was unharmed, and continued zig-zagging her way home, but it could have been so much worse.

              Blimey Dave,

Its hard to know what to do sometimes. I was walking back from fishing one night when I came across a couple in their 30s, mrs was too drunk to walk properly & the bloke asked for some help to get her home, saying it had taken him an hour to get her this far (1 mile out of a 2 mile walk)

Gave them a lift into town, during which time she was sneakily trying to hold my hand, despite her boyf being in the car.

Dropped them in town & they went straight into the off licence:doh:

Saw them a few weeks later in Morrisons, both covered in facial scars, wearing neck braces & using crutches.

Must have got themselves a car to get back from the pub with:doh:
