After a lovely sunny and reasonably warm day in sheltered spots...came home from work 2pm went straight into my greenhouse to check what was going on.....it was roasting in there....looked at the thermometer and at one point the temp had reached 33 degrees.... both auto vents were open...but some of my seedlings looked worse for wear to say the least....i took the lid off my propagator and it was literally steaming......i've got an awfull feeling some of the seedlings may have succumed, can't think they will have survived that heat.....it had forecast a sunny day...but the forecaster always has a smirk on his face so i don't neccesarily believe him:biggrin: .....i'll know better next time....so just a word of warning ...keepan eye on the temperature in your GH's even though it is still early days:dbgrtmb:

I don't have a greenhouse but have the same problem with my conservatory. Temps can really go up when the sun is shining as it is south facing. Nothing can survive in there in summer! Unfortunately, for security reasons, I cannot leave any of the windows open whilst I am at work. Have recently brought a new shed with large windows so am planning on moving the seedlings into there once the weather picks up.

Might be worth chucking some shading over the greenhouse? On an overcast day it will make little difference, on a sunny day it will keep the temperatures down.

Surprised they climbed so high, though, Loli with the vents open?

Scaffolder's Debris netting would do the trick, provided it wasn't inclined to blow away?

Temperature logger that will email / SMS you, or just upload to a website you could check when away?? so you could ask a neighbour to open the door in an emergency perhaps? Might be overkill perhaps? although losing seedlings might be worse fate ...

Its been overcast all day here, although I could make out the sun thru the clouds.

That hasn't stopped the solar tubes getting upto 35c though, just from the Infra Red passing through the clouds.

Sounds early Loli? I reckon on about 3 weeks from germination to them needing planting out ... although maybe you just harvest them in situ instead? :heehee:

What about your mammoths, I hope they didn't get scorched?

I think I mentioned on the Onion Competition thread how mine reached 50 deg C before I got the hang of opening vents etc.
