Finally got hold of a decent vigorous P. constance elliot.
      It came from Morrisons

Much better than "white lightning, which basically looks like a washed out Cerulea.

Looks good :) How do you grow them? I'm planning on a large pot with an obelisk-frame in them, but maybe there is a Better Way?

Well its pot grown this winter, frost free, but will be planted out next spring, it should be as hardy as Cerulea, but hope to get a cutting or two next summer just in case.
White lightning has flowered well this summer and is planted at the base of a largish tree, hoping to get it going upwards if it survives the winter.

Cant remember exactly, but £3 seems about right.

Pete - good for Morrisons. Their prices are good - but its usually a very limited range of common plants. So its nice to see something different.

LongK - I love that Ornithogalum.

Hedychium gardnerianum - I finally have my first ginger flower.

I have no idea what this is - can anyone help me? I assume it's a Tillandsia but which one?

Tillandsia dyeriana - this has to be my favorite Tillandsia

At last Gloriosa rothschildiana has flowered

So have the slugs this year! It's bereft of foliage now!

That gets a big wow from me too!:dbgrtmb:

Not tekin' the pee or anything, but mine are dying back for the winter now:heehee:. Just a couple of flowers to come on G.lutea. G.carsonii had all its flower buds bar three obliterated by slugs despite the fact that it is growing into my other Gloriosa:scratch:

@PeterS , are you sure the Hedychium is gardnerianum?
Looks more like "tara" to me.

Pete - many thanks for that comment - you are right. I assumed that it was gardnerianum as I knew I had that - but never having had a ginger flower before, I wasn't able to judge. I have just looked at the label this morning, which is very difficult to get at, and it just said hedychium orange.

This was one that I bought three years ago at the Harrogate Flower Show - where it was quoted as orange - but they didn't know anything more. I have a genuine, (possibly - according to the label :rolleyespink:) gardnerianum growing outside. Its the same height but the leaves are much broader. The plant I showed had very thin leaves and Googling Tara seems to show the same thin leaves. So I am delighted that perhaps I can now put a name to it. Thank you.

Kristen - just seen your post. Perhaps I should just label it as H. coccineum. Even so I am delighted that I now have two different gingers.

I've got quite a few, particularly ones from seed, if you want some more?

My favourite is definitely Hedychium Gardnerianum (but only got one plant of that, sorry!) - better foliage, and flowers than the rest, and the scent is powerful (some of the others too)

I've noticed some gingers of this type have denser flower heads on occasion, I put it down to the strength of that particular stem, looking closely, and I'm not certain on this, but strong growing shoots tend to have two flowers in the one bud.
The weakers shoots only seem to have one, so the flower looks less dense and it only lasts about half the time.

"tara" is definitely much more orange the Gardnerianum, no scent, and I find earlier to flower.
