Sowing in leaf mould....

Does anyone else do this? I thought I'd give it a go...

9 days ago I'd sown some Ammi Majus,the pot on the left was in JI seed sowing compost and on the right just sieved leaf mould .Works well IMO

 

That's a good comparison Loli. Unfortunately I don't have enough leaves to try it.

 

Helebores self seed in leaf mould too, there again Helebores just self seed......................

 

The fungi in leafmould will have the same benefit as "Rootgrow" type additives with Mycorrhizal fungi, which should help the developing seedlings, but just used "plain" I think it holds too much water.

I wouldn't have thought so @pete unless it's bracken and pine needles that have rotted down,but I really haven't a clue to the science of it allIt worked so that's good enough for me I've got a ton of the stuff and it's so gorgeous I could eat it myself

 

I just know that if I find copper coins in woodland, they're all eaten away.

I've got all my neighbours in the cul-de-sac collecting leaves for me they really dislike anything green which is a bonus for me

 

Just looked it up, they start off acidic but move toward neutral as they decompose

 

Now you know I'd cook you something different to leafmould stroganoff but you'd need to get wrapped up bit cool up here for you southerners

 

Don't start getting all technical Zig...I don't 'do' technical
