More digging on the plot. Plus I tidied the shed there up at last and installed some tool hooks.

Managed to finally get in the garden for a hour or so
No damage as far as I can see from the snow and frost
Got the last of the canna rhizomes up.
Cut back all the blackened foliage on the rest of cannas and gingers and mulched
Gave a few plants in the GH a small drink
      Roll on spring

Just been out watering the borders in an empty Greenhouse. There are two water butts (dustbins) on the back, so working on the principle that all the water in those bins is what would have fallen onto that area if the greenhouse wasn't there I keep watering it on. I find this to be more natural than letting the borders become bone dry over winter and then flooding them with tap water in the spring.

Digging up, dividing and moving this mofo (hope I can say that as that's how I felt about it in the hour it took me to dig it up).

Dug over one of the veg raised beds and made the shed respectable. Went down to the nursery to buy some manure and see if there was anything else that needed buying only to see it is not open until mid Jan. I do this every year and get to the entrance before I remember they take their holidays every year at this time!! Ye Olde Senility is kicking in bigtime :thud:

Dec/Jan has been really interesting because although there isn't loads of growth, there's tonnes to explore at a micro level - looking at all the buds and shoots developing. Well, I find that interesting!

What's surprised me is that some plants are still growing albeit slowly, when I expected all growth to pretty much stop. My Brunnera, both Jack Frost and Mr Morse, are still growing new leaves - and I think the Jack Frost, developing flower buds.

Otherwise, I've today taken receipt of all my seed packets and squished a few aphids I found on one of the Brunnera.

                        morning
yesterday I ventured out to the garden to see what state my compost bins are in ... they are still suffering from over-twigging!! the bottoms of both are just dry twigs and branches from 2 years ago that ex chucked in when he cut back the hedges ... ... ive never got round to clearing either of them out  and have just chucked stuff in on top ... think I need to start from scratch with a new bin!!!
however one bin had a bit of a surprise in it! a crop of potatoes!! some of the spuds I tried to grow last year didn't amount to much more than small marbles after months and months so I just pulled them up and chucked them in the compost bin ... so today we are having home grown spuds with sunday lunch !!!
my blow away greenhouse was retrieved from the trees at the end of the garden :snork: but the cover is all shredded so will either be gaffer taped back together or a new plastic cover fashioned from something ...

im looking forward to reading what everyone else is doing and hopefully starting some seeds off soon :)

Took the Greenhouse apart, wrestled the bent frame back into shape and put it back together again :phew:

Topped up one of my 5 compost heaps with horse manure. A friendly Robin was allowed to investigate before putting the lid back on. This heap will be allowed to rot now until it is ready for use next winter.
