We bought a house which had, at one point, awesome landscaping, but it had been vacant for 2 years so it was less then kept up by the bank.

I think I have about got it in hand with exception of a rose bush and 20 or so crepe myrtles.

1st the rose bush was intertwined with a walnut tree and all kinda of vines. Both of which has pulled the trellis over. I have pulled all the vines and cut the walnut out but what should I do about this mess of a rose bush? Cut it low or what?

Also, crepe myrtles line the driveway but all full of dead trunks..I think last winter got them. Should I cut the trunks out? There are suckers that have grown up and are fairly large, but they cannot support their own weight with out the dead trunks...causing them to fall every which way.

If you take a look at the roses forum here on GC you will find threads there telling you how to prune and look after roses. :) Sorry, the Myrtle I can't help you with.

Good afternoon Sharp are you sure its definitely a Rose?as we don't know much about it,:dunno:

If it is then cut it back to 30 centimetres(12 inches) then you could dig it up and move it to a new position,or leave it where it is and retrain it  Now is the time to do it when it is dormant:smile:

Looks like a rose, but is there something else growing through it still?

As to Crepe myrtle, (Lagerstroemia indica)?

    How tall are they?

If it's not a rose, it missed a good chance as the blooms look like a rose to me

In the picture I can see some rose leaves, but the leaves to the left of the pic dont actually look like rose to me.

There may be more "stuff" intertwined. .I'll get out there again when I have more light and pull it out..best bet is to cut down to 12" or so?

The crepe Myrtles vary in height..mostly about 5' tall, with 1 or 2 being upwards of 12'

P.s. sorry about the cross forum posting
