I will try and find out although, being that "alpina" in Italian means from the Alps mountains, so we are looking at quite respectable heights and therefore cold climates...

This is a seed weed in my garden so sowing should not be a problem. Either sow in trays in cold g/house in Feb/March and prick out when big enough, or sow where you want them to grow in Mar/April. Then spend the next 10 years weeding them out from where you do not want them to be!

They are lovely, and they may not go mad in your garden. Sow and see, they are not hard to weed out.

I couldn't find any information about the cultivation of the plant, but this is a plant which grows at heights between 1500 and 3800 meters, so it is not likely to have problems with any cold climate. In nature her favourite place to grow is among limestones and debris from corroded stones, in a slighly acid soil. The roots are therefore well developed in order to find the water in such an unkind environment.
The plants grow in small groups forming therefore a little "cushion" not extremely thick though. Their height can vary from 5 to 20 cm. (2to8inches). It flowers between june and august.
