I considered bed bugs whilst shuddering!
However-I bought a new bed complete with mattress and head and toe board only three months ago, but I did strip the whole thing down and looked in all the likely places several times because of my dread of the thought of bed bugs, but nothing like that, also bed bugs leave spots of dried blood and brown poop on the bedding, but there was/is none of that either, it is a mystery, otherwise I would have a better idea of how to deal with it.
My best thoughts are that midges can get through mosquito netting, it is the only thing that makes any sense to me.

Part of the mystery for me is why all of a sudden am I plagued with biting insects for the first time in 70 plus years, my new home did not have this problem when I moved in two years ago, so why now, perhaps I have done something recently that caused it somehow.

Have you actually seen these midges? It seems too early in the year for them, my money is on bed bugs or fleas. Do you have pets? Maybe cats are bringing in fleas

Are you on any new medication? I know that sometimes medical drugs can cause rashes.

I don't think a gardening forum is really the best place to seek advice tbh.
Go and see your GP or local pharmacist and they will be able to tell you what is biting you and what to do about it.

I used to get bitten frequently so when I used to holiday in Thailand. I used Jungle Formula to keep biting insects away and that worked really well.

Yes-I have seen the midges, but only when caught in the two Insect Killer Mosquito Fly Pest Traps that I bought.

          Cats?………
No, no pets at all, but now you mentioned it, I had reason to call on a neighbour 2-3 weeks ago who has cats and after being invited in it was obvious that they were a well established hoarder! items of what looked like of no value or use was piled up all over the house, the whole house including the kitchen and garden was the same, when I left I did notice clouds of midges outside, perhaps they got on me and I unwittingly brought them home with me- if that is possible.

When I visited India or Nepal I used DEET which worked well enough, although the solvent used removed the printing on the bottle.

I was wondering about those blue light things. Are they worth it?

              Yes, in my opinion,
You can see the midges in the Insect Traps, the traps can also be heard popping as they electrocute the insects, they have also caught a wasp, they may not have caught all of them but they will have reduced the amount that bite me.
