I have a very large, very healthy coreopsis in a container.
It is a rather violent in-yer-face plain yellow that doesn't go with anything. I want to plant it out of sight in dry partial shade that gets blistering sun midday in the summer. Is it likely to survive with minimal watering?
should I try it down there in the container to see how it goes or plant it straight out?
It has really nice foliage and I was hoping it wouldn't flower this year but it's covered in buds.

Probably best to plant out and you will need to water to establish.

Blistering sun? which part of the tropics are you in.

No such thing as a flower that doesn't go with anything, nature manages it.;)

When it flowers I'll post a pic - if my phone can do justice to the full horror.

It only needed to be blistering hot one day for some plants that have turned crispy on me - a rather nice little ex- acer for one.

I know what you mean about that sort of loud colour @BB3. It stares at you and follows you :thud:. I have a rose which is supposed to be orange but it’s a lurid pink. No way, even my keen gardening neighbour refused to offer it a new home .

I've bought roses with faded labels. Nice, subtle hues. Then they flower:sad:.
I don't like killing stuff just because it's ugly. I put it them the oubliette. They could come for me next:sad:

I see your ' nature manages it' and raise you African marigolds - particularly the greeny yellow ones. @pete

We had a coreopsis once planted in our hot border. It’s got all the morning sun and then the red hot stuff for a good portion of the afternoon. It always sagged, drooped and need copious watering just to keep it upright. Its now gone on its journey to somewhere else….up on high.
