You will get a great variety of Dahlias from a packet of seed. Some will be marvelous the rest quite ordinary. They will develop tubers so mark the ones you want to keep.

There are two families of Dahlias, fibrous rooted and tuberous rooted. The fibrous ones tend to be annuals/ biennials. The tuberous ones are perennials. If you take seeds from tuberous ones they will produce tubers, more importantly, every seedling will be a one off.:dbgrtmb:

Yes the plants grown from seed will eventually form tubers. The tubers develop as the days grow shorter, so by autumn dig them up if they any good and replant again next spring. Hope you end up with some lovely dahlias like I have this year.

I saved the seed from the dahlias and this year i've ended up with some lovely and unusual looking ones.
