Feeding

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
I have tomatoes in the greenhouse and outside already with flowers just abut to open, they are set in pots with tomatoe compost and miracle grow slow release feed, so will I need to feed them with tomarite weekly?

Once the actual little tomatoes start to form then you normally start feeding with a Tomato feed which is high in Potash to give big fruits.

Cannot see any online info on what ratio your MG feed is ?
If you look on the label your should see a listing for NPK as eg 4 -3 -4 ( K = potash)

Depending on what it is, will dictate what, if anything , extra you need to feed, though probably just use a tomato feed weekly which is typically 4-3-8

Perhaps put a question in the Tomato 2020 post as to if its needed to use MG anyway, as to much fertiliser can lead to too much leaf growth and less fruit.

Also a bit early/risky to put toms outside, still a chance of a frost, even down south.

 

Thanks Ricky I will have a look at the ratings, although to be honest, don’t really understand the numbers thing.
As the toms are in pots, I can put them back in the greenhouse if any frost is forecast.

Hi Karl, all fertilisers are classified according to their ratio of N (Nitrogen =leaves and growth), P (Phosphate = Root development) and K (Potassium/Potash = fruit and flower development). Always in that order. So for a lawn, where you want green leaves and strong roots, the fertiliser would be a high number N, medium number P and low number K. For tomatoes, you want fruit, so it would be low number N, medium P and high K, e.g. 6:8:14 Hope this helps a bit
