Last week I bought an orchid phalaenopsis (im not sure what species), been watering it every couple of days, but yesterday, with the slightest of nudges I knocked off one of the buds  (not the one that was next to flower, but the one after that). As its only a small one, with 3 flower stalks, is it natural for it to shed buds if it has to many, or is there something Im doing wrong? Its not as far as I'm aware, in to much or little, light.

    In other words, :help:

Ill put a picture up if you want

    Hi boband iris
Ok I am no expert but I have one in the bathroom (it seems to like it there) I have discovered they really don't like a lot of water. Make sure it is well drained too after watering as they will rot if left sitting in it. I only water mine once a week or so. Another thing I picked up here is they like light at their roots hence the clear plastic pot. I put mine in a glass pot holder to facilitate the light. Also they like light but not direct sunlight. I'm sure someone will pop along who knows much more than I do :)

Hmmm good points. It hadn't twigged that as they grow up trees, that they will like light on their roots, but that makes sense.

Also - boband iris :) Ive used that as a nickname on a bunch of forums and never realized. Ta for pointing that out :)

I agree its very easy to over water and too little is probably better than too much.

I know they are supposed to like light at the roots but I find they grow well in ordinary pots, I dont think its critical.

Good light but not direct sunlight at this time of the year.

If you have only had it a week its probably still getting used to its new enviroment.

Yea thats a good point, a week is not enough. If its looking less and less healthy in a week or 2 ill ask again.
I'm still inexperienced with gardening other than house leeks/alpines, but with the explosion of Orchids everywhere I thought this one was great, so went and bought it :)

With Orchids, if in doubt, DON`T water. Just give a misting every couple of days.:gnthb:
