@Jack Sparrow my greenhouse isn't in full sun and it's quite a bonus. No shading required for one. This year my father in law lost all his tomatoes, they just fried, mine are fine and dandy:blue thumb:
As for what I've been doing, the school holidays have kept me away from my garden quite a bit, so it's a lot deadheading and screaming at the weeds :rolleyespink: yesterday I wandered down the garden to find a patio with a carpet of bindweed :doh:and brambles leapfrogging willy nilly :gaah:
It's only 3/4 weeks! And it's like a jungle :dunno:

I agree about the position for the greenhouse. It will only be shaded on the lower portion of it. The sun will still be shining on the roof and upper part. This will make it more than hot enough :blue thumb: Is that fence on the West side of the garden, and which is South?

The garden has seven distinct lawn areas although some are contiguous :blue thumb:. The front garden has three completely separate lawns. Two are small, roughly 50sq ft and 120sq ft and the third is larger at about 2,000+sq ft. The four back lawns are much bigger :rolleyespink: :phew:

Ive just brought my first home and would love to plant a wisteria on the front of my house. Looking for recommendations on whether to plant on the right or left side of the front door?

I seem to do more thinking and planning at this time of year and apart from snipping and splitting I don't seem to be doing much. There's something therapeutic about watching the grass grow:smile:

Sarah Raven's bulb catalogue arrived this week and I put it aside to look at later.
Over coffee I read it from cover to cover. The words and beautiful pictures are well put together and although it may be more style over substance but I can see why people are seduced into buying.

Yep, starting to plan and think myself too alana :). Already decided on one or two changes

A beautiful day, very warm. Dead headed tithonias, dahlias and heleniums again. Taking my life in my hands, well I am a hero, as I mingled with dozens of bees esp on heleniums. However, even more bees on heleniums in front garden so Im going to wait until later to get into those.

My rayburn service engineer wanted pictures of most everything in the garden plus questions galore....promised him divisions of grasses, sanguisorbas, persicarias, dahlias etc to help him make a prairie garden in his field. Very enthusiastic guy. A pleasure to share in his enthusiasm :)

A wet morning.....in fact rain expected until early afternoon. Bright though despite the rain.

Prob take more cuttings although a lot taken over past 2 or 3 weeks already.

The National Dahlia Collection is open today......just 6 miles or so away from me....so I may look in for the odd bargain as I did last year. Folk can order dahlias they particularly want and they will be propagated and available next spring.....useful service I have taken advantage of myself. :)

Not far from Surreal Succulents so a visit there too is likely. :)

                      Nico is beautiful! :wub2:

He reminds me of a weekend sorting out Nana's summerhouse garden when I was young. My dog thoroughly enjoyed helping with the digging with obvious results to her personal hygiene. Then, just as we were heading to the bus stop to catch the coach home, she found something unspeakable apparently left by a visiting fox and rolled in it.

The stench was incredible, and in a hurry, with no plumbing, the only option was to drench her with ice cold well water from buckets and spray lemon juice all over her.

The 2 hrs coach trip home didn't help members of public to endear themselves to dogs :snorky:

                        Yesterday rain stopped play.

Now autumn is nearly here going to sow grass seed on bare patches what should be grass and green manure on the vegetable plots being left empty over winter. Start to remove two cordon plums that are now in the wrong place, the garden moved around them.
