Couple of questions re seeds

Happy Christmas Gardeners - Can you grow mint from seed? And what is the proper name of "Snow in Summer" and can you grow that from seed too? I've always had cuttings or plants given me. TY!

 

Hello fumanchu, Yes, mint self-sows if left to it's own devices, so it's viable, but the results may be a bit variable re. leaf size and flavour.
Cerastium tomentosum = Snow in summer. Also possible from seed.

 

Easiest way of growing mint is to buy some from the supermarket and put a few cuttings in water.

I will do that Pete but I want a long narrow border full of mint so seeds would be good as well. TY both

 

I agree. IME, it tends to spread from the middle, leaving a bit of a hole, if left in open ground. I grow mine in 10” pots, renewing the compost each year.

 

Yes, I like mint. I've always grown a lot of it. Just never had to start from scratch like I do now

 

It's not just the mint .in my experience once you have a bit of snow in summer. You have a lot in no time!
