Westland Peat free compost

    If you are not insistent on using peat free products, we find that Jacks Magic low peat compost is still readily available, reasonably priced and is suitable for most things though a trifle expensive for potatoes for which garden soil is normally ok.

      I'm all for a complete ban on the use of peat but at the same time it's important that peat free compost manufacturers become completely transparent about what "EXACTLY" is in their product in detail. Saying "With added this that and tuther" isn't enough.......... what exactly and how moooch!? and what is the core material and where has it come from too?

        If the alternatives were of sufficient quality to do the job I would also be in favour of reducing peat but everything I have tested so far gets nowhere near the same result. It may be a closer result if I had time to molly coddle the plants but there never is sufficient time.

        So I shall continue to buy peat products for now.
