I stopped watching GW when Alan Titchmarsh packed up. Until he left, all of the presenters had also been time-served qualified gardeners. Monty Don isn't. With the emphasis on lots of little segments presented by all and sundry, it just lost all credibility as a serious gardening programme.

A good idea @AnniD, please do. I always found your thread "elsewhere" very useful, plus the resulting commentary .

I found it useful too @AnniD.

Maybe you are a perfectionist, @Plantminded, but Monty has such a large garden he possibly doesn't have time to do it all perfectly! I had a very large garden at my old house and it was hard to keep it nice all the time. I have downsized but my garden is 40m x 17m just the flower garden bit that I'm making from scratch. I don't do hard landscaping, just digging flower beds because I can't bear to be without flowers and roses.

I'll press up Monty. He isn't the only presenter without gardening creds. Look at Geoff Hamilton. I really enjoyed Geoff's presentation, as did many others. Like Monty, Geoff used his own garden for the show which is still open apparently and run by his son, an organic gardener. I think Monty's style is one of inclusion, allowing a wide variety of experts and home gardeners to appear, and the show is richer it. Gawd bless'im.

Makes no sense no me; please translate.
Or is it a reference to a weird gym exercise where a monty sits on your back as you do press ups.

I enjoy most of Gardener's world, particularly when it's Adam presenting, and segments with Rekha or Carol Klein. I usually record it so I can press the fast-forward button through the dull bits (for me that's the fuzzy-wuzzy-gardening's-so-good-for-you bits that don't show you any interesting plants or techniques or even really good gardens). My favourite GW presenter was Geoff Hamilton.

Probably shouldn't say as most of my garden is not what it was these days but I really think montys garden is a bit of a mess for putting on the TV.
There seems to be stuff all randomly planted without any real thought.
And then in mid summer he comes along and plants other stuff in amongst it all.
It never looks a riot of colour in mid summer, mostly just lots of tall floppy stuff all falling over with a few flowers here and there.
Not keen on the summer house as he calls it, kinda reminds me of a corrugated iron shed painted a ghastly green.

I just think for a TV garden, and what he has at his disposal, that is on show each week it could look a whole lot more cheerful.

I think he has an aversion to bright colours.

Doesn't help, despite what the conspiracy theorists tell you; TV's and radios only work in one direction, so the presenters cannot hear you.

Oh god yes, they had some bloke on one time who wibbled on about his mental health and then danced. I always watch it on iPlayer so I can skip those bits.
Similarly with Pointless, I like to fastforward every time Alexander says "so, tell me all about yourself". Program ends up about 10 minutes long.

Maybe @Busy-Lizzie, but Monty’s on TV, informing experienced and new gardeners. He can do what he likes behind the scenes when no one’s watching . (Monty also employs 2 full-time gardeners.)
