Our two new planters arrived today so will get cracking tomorrow with lining them and putting in a decent mix of compost, topsoil and grit. We have bought some little plants to go in them too so will enjoy the process of placing them around and deciding where they will go.
First though, we have to decide where they are going in the front garden so I imagine there will be much humming and ahhhing between us.:heehee:
Then OH wants the greenhouse emptying of all that I have in there so that he has room to start sowing his cosmos and marigolds etc. It’s only a small greenhouse so some hard decisions will have to be made.:th scifD36:

I love Dandelions :wub2:, had carpets of them at Anglesey house. So pretty and important early pollinator plant for Bees and other insects. Anglesey county council thought so too as lots of verges and roundabouts, etc , covered in Dandelions. There were a few growing in lawn at new house, but bunnies polished those off. I've noticed some growing in between the block paving so hopefully they will survive.

You have my sympathies with the noise levels. I have screaming children on one side , dragging stuff around and goes on all day if weather sunny. Barking dogs the other side. It's impossible to use the garden to sit in and chill , I have to go indoors or go out. The screaming kids are the worst :wallbanging::wallbanging:. I've tried ear plugs and thick woolly hat, but can still hear it.

I used to see Sparrows eating the Dandelion flowers and the seed heads. Goldfinches too.

Another fan of dandelions here my tortoise loves them. Not the best when they are crowding out some precious plant though.

Thanks for info @NigelJ - unfortunately I've stopped my AGS subscription. Couldn't justify the cost just for the Seedlist and a magazine full of accounts of trips that I could never dream of ("2 months in the Patagonian hillsides" etc).
Yesterday was more weeding. I mentioned the curse of hairy bittercress to someone who told me she eats it. I know the Romans did, but I prefer the pea shoots we snipped from the windowsill tray of marrowfat peas. From growing to table in 2 mins!

20250317_175640.jpg Yesterday was overcast and cold all day. No neighbours in gardens - :hapydancsmil::hapydancsmil::yahoo::yahoo:. Finished planting up the old tyre. Not sure I like the white colour , but not going to spend on buying more masonry paint. Sat on zero g chair with coffee and biscuits until turned blue with the cold, despite being well wrapped up. The peace and quiet was heavenly

It looks a little stark now, but I’m sure as the surface softens with moss and lichens it will be lovely :)

Will you harmonise the humming and the ahhing or will it be a bit random , remember , plants like rhythm and balance.

Ours are still in hibernation but its just too cold to think of moving them to a warmer room to wake up only to tolerate cold conditions outside which they wont like and will look grumpier than normal. Hopefully they will wake naturally next week and by April they will be gorging on dandelions and flattening my plants once more .

Pruned back a rosemary that we planted last year and it has grown really well. This was to replace one that died last year after 35 years...not bad! Harvested some salad leaves from the tunnel, potted up a side shoot from one of the orchids and then continued to cut up wood for the fire next year which has been stacked for over 2 years already.

Did a little moss-extraction from my creeping thyme, removed the dry leaves that were caught in the stems around the pond (tried to pick out a few leaves from the water, but they all had dragonfly larvae protecting them). Weeded a little around the garlic and kale in the veg beds.

itching to do it, but probably too early to do the hydrangea spring prune?

@Robert Bowen , oh yes, there will be “ harmony “ in the garden by the end:heehee: Meanwhile, we have both mixed umpteen buckets of nice soil/compost etc and filled all of the planters. We found a third square planter at the back of the shed so have incorporated that with the two new ones.
@luciusmaximus , I’m just glad the roofers are not here all the time. I have finished outside now( all day out) and the peace inside is wonderful. I do find I’m getting a headache now with all that background booming going on though ( not “ music” to my ears). It’s been continuous all day long. Much grumbling about it from OH:old:

                                I have been gifted these
                                20250318_161524.jpg

Openly admit I was more interested in the free pots than the free cabbages! However, I do like the colour and the size, so thinking I might keep one of them. It will have to stay in a pot though and might not like it. I was told put them in the ground, but don't have enough ground. The flowers are Bee friendly,,so another reason to keep one.

Painted 2nd coat on outside of garden gate and had a sweep around. Sat and drank coffee as no neighbours until later on. My heat seeking missile seems to have found its target as no screaming kid, just the adults.
