Meant to get some gardening done yesterday. Went to the Donkeys for early breakfast, then a walk. The walk, with some intermittent sitting on benches and enjoying the view, didn’t finish till gone 2pm! Lots of primroses and daffodils round the walks, and sticky buds and blossom on the trees. A glorious blue sky and the sea glittering in the sun. Didn’t want to leave, so we didn’t!
By the time we had got home and had a late lunch / early dinner, and FaceTimed with a friend abroad, the day was pretty well over.
At home today, and seed planting planned. Having said that, it’s gone 10am and I’m still lounging in bed, finishing my now cold breakfast coffee and scrolling though the forum, and a quick look at the news. Now I’m feeling guilty so I’d better get started. First thing to do is to tackle the pile of bags of compost. Unloaded them from the car onto a table in the garage. The seed compost is of course at the bottom of the pile….

          Hello all.

I think I forgot to post yesterday. It was a busy day. I finished painting the kitchen at last. Relief to have it back to normal without newspapers and paint rags all over the floor. I think OH had the worst job, taking cupboard doors and handles off and back on. I looks white in the photos but it's called "Sage Mist", slight hint of soft green.

In the afternoon I spent over 2 hours weeding a not very big bed. I hadn't weeded it since the autumn so it was a bit of a mess. I haven't mulched it yet as I'd run out of compost. Just been out to buy some.

I'm babysitting for my son, Daniel the dentist, from this afternoon until tomorrow afternoon. Daniel is doing a 2 day course in Paris and his lovely French wife is taking the three older children to look around museums etc so I will just look after the younger two. The last two nights friends had them. Mustn't forget my feather pillow, they have memory foam pillows. Don't like them.

A lot of it needed a third coat doors and fronts of drawers. This is a very old stone cottage with beams and quirky bits. Not a modern, sleek, streamlined kitchen.

Friday. rained last night, not a lot, looks like it can dry up enough in a couple hours so I can tackle another garden area. Windy now.
@Busy-Lizzie , my pulls on my kitchen drawers are like yours. on the cupboards are simple button types. both copper colored. We renovated our kitchen about 10 years ago.
            Take care all.

I have days like that @Ergates

              Lovely kitchen @Busy-Lizzie

Nothing much happening here today. Feel very tired, not sure why, hope I’m not going down with something. I have managed to de-bobble two very bobbly cardigans with my new toy. Very satisfying but takes longer than you think it will. Caught up with last weeks Archers omnibus whilst buzzing away.

Now flopped after a walk around the local park. Not sure much else will be happening today although I do need to summon up a little bit of energy to cooks supper. Paella tonight or at least my version of it. A very straightforward recipe picked up off BBC Good Food aeons ago.

Hope everyone has had good day

                Good afternoon,

It’s becoming cloudier now and the temperature has dropped a bit. Had a productive few hours in the garden when I got back from the dentist. Pulled up lots of weeds and repotted a clematis as its old pot had completely worn away underneath (it had been a metal one). It’s been rehoused into a plastic pot, so I’m hoping that problem won’t recur. A general tidy up, and then decided to call it a day as my back was getting a bit stiff, so chose to listen to it rather than ignore and regret later.

You’ve done a super job of painting your kitchen cupboard doors and drawers @Busy-Lizzie. You must be feeling very pleased with your work. It all looks lovely. Enjoy your time with your grandchildren.

We have tackled the spiny thug, aka the Pyracantha, by the patio. The area is now larger, lighter and safer. We'll see if we can get it taken out in Autumn.
                  Should sleep well tonight!

Good afternoon all. @Ergates, hope you managed to get the seed compost out from the pile and have got some seeds sown. Your kitchen is wonderful @Busy-Lizzie and well done on all of your paint work. I suspect you may find looking after the two grandchildren just as tiring, perhaps even just as messy!
@Blue arbour, your weather is similar to mine again. Sunshine gone, cloud built up and a noticeable drop in the temperature. We have rain in the forecast.
I am in the process of removing a vicious rambling rose that has started to weigh down my camellia. It is a beast and either snags my clothes or pierces through them and snags my skin. I just want rid of it. I think I need a new saw or perhaps I will research a powered one. It will have to be lightweight though to make it easy for me to use.

I like pyracantha. Having had a good sized hedge of it at our previous place, miss the blossom and the berries. The sound of bees and sparrows.
My OH has said she would prefer NOT to have one here. It's safer!!

Afternoon all, another vote here for getting rid of pyracantha. Ours is sulking in a large pot on a south facing terrace. I assume it either doesn't like being in a pot and/or the situation doesn't suit it. I had thought it would be evergreen, trainable and covered with orange berries that the birds wouldn't like. No, No and thrice no. The problem is how to untie it from its wall trellis and get it out of the pot. I could possibly replant it in a gap in a hedge but really don't relish the thorns. To do, or not to do???

Your kitchen does look nice @Busy-Lizzie, well done on all that painting.

I was rather annoyed to wake up really early at 5 am just when we didn't need to but was hungry so got up for a cuppa and cereal snack. Went back to bed but still couldn't sleep so got up again, had another cuppa and actually did the ironing (unheard of!) and made up the bed for my son, who's arriving tomorrow for an overnighter. I've been trying to work out how to get a Clic-Clac sofa bed down from the loft and a single bed up to replace it, so have called in the muscle. Of course I can't find the instructions for the sofa bed but hopefully it comes apart.

                        Enjoy your Friday evening folks.

It was with some regret @Fourmerkland that we hacked it back. It had outstayed and outgrown its welcome.
We have perused, cogitated and purchased a Kadai BBQ and fire pit - sharp intake of breath! Himself is very enthusiastic - I am nurturing that. Life changing surgery brings different challenges.

Paris is grey - again. Set off in sunshine which lasted til we got to Massy and checked in at the hotel then a short walk to the station for a train into the centre - Belgian embassy is at Arc de Triomphe - and surfaced to find it all grey. Embassy done. Fabric market done - 3 nice cotton fabrics for Possum frocks but disappointing haberdashery for me.

Planned to go to the Musée d'Orsay tomorrow but the online booking system is not working. Rodin museum booked OK but the Louvre wants 40€ each! I can't absorb art after an hour or two at a push so that seems expensive to me. Anyway, back at th ehtel now feeling tired and dirty from all the traffic and metro tunnels. Shower and dinner next then a good sleep, I hope.

I like pyracantha as a great plant for birds and insects too but you do have to be careful about where it's planted as it's vicious. Good intruder deterrent! I tried it in Belgium on the boundary between us and the cows but the Beasts from the East winter winds proved too much for it.

Good job on your kitchen @Busy-Lizzie. Have fun with the little 'uns.

                            Have a cosy evening everyone.

Good evening all. I cannot believe how quickly today has passed. I am finished for the day and have just put some mixed dried fruit to soak in cold tea to make a tea loaf tomorrow for Sunday's tea/coffee morning.
@Obelix-Vendée I do have a pair of loppers to use but my Bestie only had secateurs. I even find I can only work with my loppers in short bursts as they are actually quite heavy. Sorry the weather is a bit dull for you in Paris but at least you have got the main reason for the trip sorted. I am signing out for this evening. I plan on watching GW and then going to read. Do enjoy your evenings and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.

Hi all just off to bed after a busy day. Nanny duty with Thomas this morning then a fairly horrendous shift at work on the counter being shouted at as usual. Lazy day tomorrow then off out for a party for oldest sons 40th birthday going into Birmingham not really my cup of tea but it should be fun.
