@Jungle Jane , my October sowing are about 10-12" high, early March sowing are about 4", this is what I would expect. Are your plants indoors?

I only sowed mine on Tuesday. Last year was so wet that the slugs had a field day and it looked like this year would go the same way so I delayed planting. It has been so dry of late that I could have gotten away with it but by the time they have sprouted and been pinched out, I probably won't have to worry about hardening them off.

Hi everyone, I started my seeds off in Feb in a greenhouse that had a bit of a heat supply. I was using rolled up paper or toilet rolls as I’d read online you can plant them straight into pot/ground in the roll and not disturb the roots.

My question is, they are so weeny and they seem to have grown to a point then stuck. Could it be that they need transferring now to a larger pot to allow them to grow better roots? First spring ever for me having a garden/greenhouse so on a learning curve x

Mine started off in a greenhouse in Feb and are now hardening off outside and are a similar size to yours @Novice Gardener Laura. I pinched the tips out of mine when they were about 4 leaf pairs tall; this encourages them to become bushier.
One thing to remember about toilet rolls is that if they dry out in dry conditions then the roots can't easily get through them.

I'm really struggling to get any to germinate this year. May be reduced to buying plants.

        Thanks @NigelJ
I have been watering them very conscientiously. I did the same with broad beans and I noticed by the time they were ready to pot on the cardboard just about disintegrated.

I’ll pinch out the tips of my sweet peas. I’m also hardening off during the day. We are having unseasonably warm weather in the north east at the minute, it’s beautiful

They were indoors but am hardening them off now. They are flopping over a bit and wonder if its too soon to plant them out...

Im considering planting some out too. We have another few days of sun predicted which takes me to around a week before last frost in Manchester
Feels like a calculated risk but I’m nervous

Planted my October sown plants out yesterday. If there's a drop in temp forecast then I might fleece them.

Ours are no more than 4" high in a cold greenhouse. We are not hardening them off yet but I reckon the nightly frosts are partly doing that. Yesterday morning was the heaviest frost and it is not so bad this morning.

I've planted mine out purely because of lack of space in cold frame and greenhouse. Here we're getting incredible sunny weather but nights are nippy, so I hope it doesn't slow them. No frost (for now).
@Escarpment I had very varied germination. Seed from a specialist came up like cress without even soaking, whereas some "big brand" seed took ages, and from another (cheap) source didn't show at all. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes.

All my sweet peas and edible peas have all been eaten by slugs and snails including my young globe artichokes despite all my preventive measures.
