Good morning to you all. That weekend just whizzed by! Looking good outside but still a bit cool. Whatever you have planned for today - make it a good one. Sending up positive thoughts for @Penny_Forthem.

@Obelix-Vendée I forgot to say yesterday how jealous I was when I read that you had heard your first cuckoo. It has been many years since I have heard a cuckoo here along with lapwings in the field at the bottom of my garden. I also miss seeing the hares 'boxing' in there at this time of year. So sad how things 'disappear'. I will be looking out now for the return of the swallows, swifts and house martins, whose numbers have also diminished. I did see my first butterfly of the year - only a small white but at least it was around. Must get the buddleja cut back today.

        Good morning all!

I too, @Ladybird4 would like to see the return of the swallows and hope to get a nest here. Fizz and I are very swallow friendly! Also, the first cabbage white is around with this sunny weather. I expect the rest will follow as they emerge after their winter.

I think I will have a busy week - the funeral is on Thursday so lots to do.

        Enjoy your week gardeners alike.

Good morning @Tui34 and @Bluejayway. I am going to a funeral tomorrow - the husband of one of my squash team. It will be a very sad time as it was unexpected.

Good morning everyone, we were away at the end of last week too. Went to Nottingham area the main reason for going was my wife had bought me a beginner course in Bonsai at a specialist nursery just north of the city. That was on Saturday, but we went Thursday and did some touristy stuff, plus linking up for dinner Friday evening with our GD who is at university up there.
We got back Saturday night but spent all day in the garden yesterday. I agree it's amazing how much things changed in less than 3 whole days.
The Bonsai course was very entertaining with lots of anecdotes and stories of success and failure. We are not deeply into Bonsai, but we have had some bought ready made and wanted to know how to look after them better. We got to make new ones for course, now to keep them alive. (Meant to say I roped my wife in to doing the course with me, that's a story for another post.

                  Good afternoon.

Another sunny day, with clear blue sky. Went to coffee morning group then when I got back pegged a wash load out to dry.

I think I’ll do a bit of general tidying in the garden after lunch. This sunshine has brought on so many flowers and the tree blossoms. I’ve a few daffs to be deadheading and check for any weeds that will have popped up.

I hope @Penny_Forthem is ok and has the surgery today.

Lovely bonsai plants @Allotment Boy. A neighbour of ours had a big collection, but sold most of them last year, keeping just a few, as they were becoming quite high maintenance apparently.

And again happy Monday. Raining again. My daffs are nuts. If it clears up later I am going to try to Movie about the garden and upload to You tube, have not done that in a while.
Anyway, on my list this week is a trip to an awesome Jewish Deli, about an hour drive, love good corn beef etc. Suppose to meet up with some person who wants to buy an object she saw on FM place. So kill two birds at once so to speak.

while having my coffee this morning, saw two racoons running across my back property, probably in a hurry to get to their den as the sun was almost up.

We have a buddleja, but I have no idea which type - so do I prune it now, or leave it until after flowering? Assuming it does ACTUALLY flower, since I didn't prune it at all last year.
                      What a dilemma!!

@Fourmerkland, yes, you should cut your buddleja hard back to about 30cm (1' in old money) above the ground now to healthy outward facing buds. Any crossing or damaged stems can be cut back to the main stems - opening up the middle of the shrub. This should be done every Spring to encourage the flowers. As the flowers go over they should be snipped off and more flowers will be produced.
Sorry to read about the delay in your op @Penny_Forthem but not too long to wait until Thursday.

                              Afternoon all.

My condolences to you and your family @Tui34 and thoughts to @Ladybird4 on your friend’s sad news.

That’s a blow @Penny_Forthem but not entirely unexpected these days, unfortunately.

Bonsai course sounds good @Allotment Boy - a wonderful doctor from my work, who sadly passed away not long after retiring, used to have a sunken garden with Bonsai plants. I had a private garden tour once - it was all fabulous.

It’s so lovely to have a potter in the garden after work. Back is achy after lifting so many pots yesterday.

I hope everyone is doing ok and having some of the sunshine.

Got some work to do outside before I get my brain in gear so I'm signing out for this evening. Enjoy whatever you have planned. Hope the patch day went well @Obelix-Vendée. See you all tomorrow.
