Another glorious morning here. Its the Quizzers first Friday meal today. Looking forward to that. I saw my next door neighbour's partner leaving at 21:55 and assumed he was going to pick her up. That is an awful amount of time she was at the hospital. I'll try and find out later how she went on. They were back at 22:35.

      Good morning to you all!

      Sunny!

Yesterday was a very pleasant 23°C here which is perfect weather for me, as I also, don't like the extreme heat.

I ceded and planted a few tomato plants yesterday. If it looks like we will have a late frost, I can cover them with a fleecy tunnel. I soaked some more dwarf bean seeds last night so will pop them in somewhere today. I also sowed some more basil and parsley into pots - if everything comes up as the heat progresses, I should have basil and parsley a go-go!!

Markets this morning and then a Fizz before it gets too warm for her. Enjoy your Friday!

Good morning all. Off work today as I have a funeral later. My mom’s older sister a lovely lady. We have to wear bright colours so trying to find an outfit that will suit the occasion. I have two black dresses plus shoes etc but a summer dress says sandals to me and not sure if that’s appropriate.
The sun is shining again we had a very short shower last night just enough to be annoying.
Hope you all have a good day.

If you feel more comfortable in the sandals and feel they look better, wear them @Debs64 If the request is for bright colours, I can’t see sandals as been less suitable than a pair of brightly coloured shoes

My condolensces at your loss. I agree, if colour has been asked for coloured footwear of any kind should be acceptable. Even white trainers which are all the craze at the moment.

Appart from cutting the grass in the morning and watering in the evening, I didn't do that much yesterday. I had an outpatients appointment in the early afternoon so was under orders not to get too engrossed in the garden.

                Good morning all.

I think sandals will be fine, Debs. Doesn't sound as though it will be very formal.

OH has gone for a Covid jab.

We are going to Blickling Hall today. It's National Trust so OH and I get in free.

Thinking of doing some more garden visits today, we like to do two on the basis that we will usually enjoy at least one and sometimes both are enjoyable because of the contrast. Anyway, I have gone dizzy trying to find two which are (a) within reasonable travelling distance (b) both open today and (c) ideally different to each other. I’ve found several ideal pairs but not necessarily both open today. Friday doesn’t seem to be a popular day for opening :dunno:

We’ve had some lovely visits this week so I may just call time and suggest we have one of our usual Sutton Park walks. We still have lots of sunshine but a bit fresher and cooler today.

Hope the funeral goes well @Debs64 . We had rain clouds last might but they didn’t last or Keane anything behind.

Hope everyone enjoys their quiz dinners, market visits and other plans. The weekend is almost here

                    Markedly cooler today.
Off to the chiropodist this morning (friend is giving me a lift)
I ordered 3 bags of compost, which were due to be delivered yesterday. We were in all day, yet DPD said they couldn't deliver! Ring bell shows they didn't even try. Supposed to be attempting delivery today; they pulled the same trick with one of hub's deliveries. They have the option to deliver next door and as he works from home, he will also be in.

                      Good morning everyone,

Yes, it’s cooler today here as well, but still pleasant. Hoping to cut the grass later. We don’t do no mow May because the patch of grass we have front and back isn’t big enough to leave it to go wild. There’s a patch of border right at the back of the front garden that’s got a crop of buttercups and dandelions in amongst the plants supposed to be there, so that’ll have to do .

Hope the funeral goes well @Debs64. As they’ve asked for bright colours, I think wearing sandals will be fine with your dress.

Hope you get your compost delivered today @Penny_Forthem. I’m not overly impressed with DPD as twice now, hampers I sent to my sister never turned up. Once, unfortunate, but twice? Luckily, the place I bought them from reimbursed me, but that wasn’t the point really as my sister didn’t get the gift I’d planned for her, I had to hastily arrange for a flower bouquet instead.

That’s a shame about the gardens @Butterfly6. You’d think they’d be open over the long weekend to make the most of potential visitors, even if Friday is usually a day they close.

We don’t do no mow May either but we have lots of clover in our grass which still manages to flower. I allow lots of wildflowers to self seed in my borders and native grasses in some plus we have a completely wild area so a neatly mown lawn sets it all off and helps create a sense of order

If we had a large lawn, I would probably do a no-mow summer in the middle, but most of our lawn areas are quite small or simply paths. The front lawn is the biggest (about 5m square) and we did do no-mow May a couple of years ago. But even extending it into June, the grass didn’t really grow and the clover was as low as ever. It just annoyed OH so I haven’t asked him to repeat the experiment.

We did No Mow May one year, and never again! Turned into impenetrable Jungle June! The mower couldn’t cope, we could have done with a scyth (and that nice young man from Poldark to wield it) We have three large areas of ‘lawn’, currently predominantly moss, so will mow it when it starts to grow as usual. The rest of the garden has lots of wilderness, so the wildlife shouldn’t miss out. A walk by the seaside this morning, then a stroll in the park alongside the river. Quiet and peaceful there, lots of birdsong, and the water babbling over the stones. Hard to believe that we were only five minutes walk from the town centre!

Weekly shop done today and lunch eaten so some gardening in store this pm before the rain arrives this evening.

Yesterday I ended up pricking out radicchio and potting on the tomatoes that I haven't yet planted in the polytunnel. I was toying with growing some outside this year and may still do so but these were desperate to move on. Can't go out till after the Ice Saints have gone by in about 10 days' time. Might still do so and then have cucumbers in the polytunnel. Decisions, decisions.

Also did some major re-potting of tubs at the front of the house. I have a Geoff Hamilton rose whose rootstock insists on throwing up dozens of suckers each year so that's had its roots pruned and been re-planted in a smaller pot. Bit brutal but he's looking fine today. Then I had to get OH to help me wrestle a Bird of Paradise out its pot. Just a teeny bit root bound but should be happier now in the much bigger pot. Just the senna corymbosa to deal with now.

Hope the funeral goes well @Debs64.

Have fun all those having days or lunches out. @Butterfly6 the garden club always organises 2 gardens to visit and tries for contrast too and we have a picnic lunch in between with quite a bit of sharing goodies for some of us. I am La Reine des Gâteaux, apparently but that's not ahrd as the French don't do good cakes. Pastries yes - bit not as good as the Belgians.

Hope all medical appointments have gone are are going well. I really don't enjoy them myself but sometimes needs must so Courage for those who need it.

                              Good afternoon!

Lovely photo of a calm spot @Ergates Shame about the garden visits @Butterfly6 Hope the funeral isn't a sa one @Debs64 in spite of the gay colour theme.

I don't do no-mow May either. Probably because I don't have any lawn and really don't want the hassle. It's too hot and dry here and weeds creep in.

I am interested in your radicchio @Obelix-Vendée as I have some seeds from last year. They didn't come up as I sowed them in June and it was maybe too hot. Can I sow some now? It looks so pretty in a green salad and I like the crunch. I believe that it takes quite a long time before you can eat them. Is that right?

I found some gel in the bathroom cupboard and tried that the other evening. Seems to work. Might keep on with it. It is for heavy legs (circulation) but has loads of herbs and smells lovely!!
After a bit of a rest this afternoon, I decided to sow some more dwarf beans directly into the soil. Unfortunately, it became quite dark and we had a good shower. The sun has come back again but the sky is dark blue/grey. What a spring!!

I think I'll make a risotto tonight. Some dubious mushrooms in the fridge and I freeze the mussel juice which should make a nice tasty risotto.

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone. I hope it's a bit cooler for you.
