If Valeriana locusta, common cord salad, is growing all over your garden, would you treat it as a weed? Would you pull it up or encourage it?
That depends on whether I wanted to use the space to plant something else! I mainly see it growing as a pavement weed in my area, so it could be used to populate areas where nothing else wants to grow.
I would enjoy the harvest and let it get on with it. I don’t like bare soil and I wouldn’t imagine it’s robust enough to bully out other plants?
I've never tried eating it but I found this: "Cornsalad was originally foraged by European peasants and has been eaten in Britain for centuries. It was grown commercially in London from the late 18th or early 19th century and appeared on markets as a winter vegetable." I don't get any in my garden, but I get bittercress which is very good to eat.
