I have a mature container rose. The stems are covered in black spot (well it's reddish brown actually) .The leaves are unaffected so far but I think they're getting a yellow tinge. No flower buds whatsoever.
Would it be advisable to cut it right back and spray it? Might this work better than spraying it with the leaves on?
    Thanks

They say have to take the affected leaves off, have to start spraying early in the season when the buds are opening, but you could try a systematic spray, that would penetrate the plant instead sitting on the leaves, clear any fallen leaves.Don't know what sort is available these days, never bother with mine anymore too many to spray.

Some of mine are more resistant than others. I want to give it a chance but I'm not precious about it. @Logan

I would just remove the leaves. I’ve never sprayed and find that quite often the new leaves are fine.

In fact if I’m honest, I rarely even bother to remove them as they soon drop naturally. I used to actively clear away any affected leaves but am not sure it made mulch difference so don’t even bother doing that now. Mine are all in the ground surrounded by other plants so any leaf drop or yellowing leaves aren’t quite as obvious as in a pot.

We did have a couple of inherited roses which were very susceptible but as they also didn’t flower well so I gradually replaced them.

Some roses get black spot more than others. If they are well fed and kept moist it happens less. I don't spray either and I don't bother too much anymore. Just one of those things.
