Oh, that is a shame! Everything is just getting to full height, so windy conditions are a particular hazard. :gaah:

Wind has certainly been disheartening, lots of snappage and shape spoiling :(

        Another grey day tomorrow :cry3:

That would be a good title for a song....

I've been busy in the last 5 or 6 weeks outside, as we've had the driest spring here on record. I've certainly never known a spring like that, and I've lived in this general part of the world my entire life, which is considerably more than a couple of decades. Back to more normal conditions now [thankfully!] as the heat was too much for me, and the rough weather over the weekend meant everything was well watered, and no real damage as everything is always well secured. Plants are further ahead because of it, but still much smaller than many people further south would expect. The biggest plus of the weather has been that many plants have escaped the usual slug annihilation we experience here in spring. Every cloud etc.
I had to renovate a fence, which was never a good specimen, and it was being seriously affected by winds, but it involved a lot of demolition - mainly of my raised beds. That was fun...not. However, I've now completed things, rebuilt some beds and replaced the planting, and constructed a pergola, with the idea that I might actually sit under it. Not holding my breath on that one...;)
I have some plants to pot on, so I should get that done today in between showers. Hopefully, all those with damaged plants will be able to sort them out - the joys of gardening eh?
Snappage. Brilliant. I shall have to use that @pete !

Same here. Awful weather. Stayed inside all day yesterday. I have to wash some more pots as when I counted up how many seedlings there are to pot on I am short of clean pots by quite a few.
The Morning Glory I sowed has come up like Mustard and Cress. The runner beans are unfolding their first leaves, also the peas and sweet peas.
I am itching to get outside to clear up the dead grass and brambles but must sit on my hands for another week at least to make sure the roots have died, not just the foliage. The garden looks awful, a barren wasteland.

Clear up blown over echium, then cut down more nettles.
Check greenhouse and have a stock count of tomatoes and dahlias.

I think so , theres been much snappage in the trees across the road and the winds have blown all the leafage ( not to mention the other resulting foliage ) across the road all over my drive and lawn. Thankfully it wont take an age to clear up!

We are so very thankful that the huge Norwegian Maple at the top of our garden was felled by the Council before these latest gales hit. They told us it was in a very dangerous condition on the Tuesday and felled it on the Thursday which gives some indication of the severity. If it had fallen, it was likely to have demolished cars, windows, fences and most of our back garden!

Planted out the pumpkins and squashes in a cleared area of an old compost heap. Soil really good. The rain yesterday wasn't enough. The veg area still looks bone dry.

It sounds like you live in the Sahara desert ( or eastern England.) That said , even parts of Wales are exceptionally dry!

Haven't been able to do much today, but potted on 4 fuchsia plants and potted up 4 fuchsia cuttings.

@lizzie27 was the tree on your land or council please? Here we have a big ash that is starting to get die back, and an arborist told me it should be brought down before it falls on our land. But because it's on unadopted land behind a neighbour's garden, the council wants nothing to do with it!

Hi Caroline, the tree was extremely close (1m) to our boundary wall/fence on the grass verge adjacent to a cul de sac road so presumably it was thankfully the Council's responsibility.

The unadopted land must belong to somebody but you would need a copy of the Land Registration plans to try to find out which won't be easy I'm afraid. I would have thought if there is a possible danger to life and limb in the absence of an identifiable owner, your Council should assume responsibility.

Would it be a problem if it did fall on your land - apart from having it disposed of?
