The choral festival in Tampere actually begins a day after we arrive, @Ladybird4 . We decided to get there a day early and take things easy - maybe explore part of the city we haven't had time to look at on previous visits. Tampere is known as the "Manchester" of Finland, but we can't see a lot of resemblance... rather more trees and a lot more lakes, and considerably less litter...

      Goodbye May.jpg
Good morning everyone. I did not get much sleep last night so consequently I'm finding it difficult to get my thoughts in order just yet. When I went into my kitchen last night prior to going to bed I realised that some thing was 'missing' when I looked out of the window. In the wind, my hanging basket stand had collepsed dropping into the border. I went out and retrieved the hanging baskets which will need some serious sorting out and is the first job on my 'to do' list this morning. I could really do without that. Hey ho. The hanging basket stand is completely unusable now as it actually snapped - it was a bit old. I hope none of you have anything like that happen to you today.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Loretta Swit this morning. M*A*S*H* was one of my favourite programmes aeons ago and "Hot Lips" Houlihan with her antics was much enjoyed. My favourite character was 'Radar' though.

We arrived home yesterday. Delighted to find the garden has had 30mm of rain and the roses are looking glorious. On this list of jobs for today is deadheading and planning to pick some for indoors as well. All my seedlings are looking happy as well. I moved the driest (in the GH) into the refilled reservoir for a soak, but none were looking desperate.

OH and I have woken up full of a head cold so don’t think we will be doing much today. We got the washing on yesterday and a bit of shopping on the way home, so nothing urgent to do

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Too hot and humid to do anything yesterday. I did a quick trip to the SM and that was me done.

I think I have osteo-arthritis in every joint in my body. It is quite debilitating when it flares up so I try to make the most of it when it is quiet. It is almost exactly 2 years since I went to the Dr. thinking I had pleurisy or a chest infection and was whisked into hospital being told I was having a heart attack, which I still do not believe!! Anyway, I have been on a daily bucket of tablets including beta blocker etc. and this last session at the Drs. was an annual review. I have taken my own pulse several times since, just to see if I still have one and yes, it is ticking away quite nicely.
Nigel J'S comments about AF being more common in sports people is interesting as I used to do a lot of swimming which could be a possible explanation. My BP has always been on the low side and is still fine. 100/60 last week.
Living with an aneurysm is a bit weird, it could rupture at any time with no warning and will be fatal so should I drive, dig, lift that bag of compost, exert myself in any way etc. etc.? Or do I sit in my chair and do nothing, to be safe? I admit, I decided to take my chance, carry on as best as I can, trying to be sensible. Very frustrating but at 84 bits are going to wear out. C'est la vie.

              Good morning all.

I didn't sleep well, too hot. It will be another hot day today, 30C forecast.

A local English builder has just delivered some oak beams. I want to make a raised bed at one end of the veg garden. Plants don't grow well there because of the bay tree. Also OH wants a beam to put over the inglenook in Norfolk. There is a small ugly beam there.

I expect it's too hot to do much in the garden.

Tonight I'm babysitting for Son 2, 5 small children. I'll stay overnight. They are going to a birthday party, will be back very late.

Morning - rather grey and dull, but dry.
I'm taking him to bushcraft; another bit of routine and normality.
I put my dodgy knees down to too much squash and riding.
I haven't done any hanging baskets this year, @Ladybird4. A bit remiss of me.
Last bits of planting out to do today!

Morning folks, I'm just waiting for my sister to finish showering and get ready to go out. We decided on a lazy day for her as she's quite tired today. A GC and lunch out is on the menu.

@Goldenlily26, I take my hat off for you. You seem to be so busy every day and pack more in than I do. I think I must have a lazy nature!

Gosh, I've just seen a deer streak across the hill opposite, something must have frightened it. We don't usually see them out in the daytime but they seem to be getting bolder this year.

Enjoy your bit of peace @Penny_Forthem while your OH is at bushcraft.

30c is indeed hot @Busy-Lizzie, so take it easy today in preparation for the babysitting tonight.

We have hazy cloud so that means warm and humid especially in my nursery barn where the walls keep out the westerly breeze. Set to be 25 but feel like 31 which is odd but true so far.

I have weeded and refreshed another row of nursery pots and done some potting on. One chewed hosta has become 6. Hundreds of snails in there and all being lobbed over the wall. I had to stop as I was dripping and the wasp stings from yesterday have made my wrists sore and a bit swollen. The perishers went for me as I was checking my seed trays in the polytunnel yesterday. Anti histamines and cortisone cream are helping.

Didn't sleep well either @Ladybird4 so not bursting with energy and I too have a head cold @Butterfly6 which kept waking me up plus huntress pussycat announced a trophy at dawn.

Off to cook our weekly English breakfast now. Have a good day everyone whether working, playing or resting.

                      Afternoon all.

Warm here too today, though only low 20s, which suits me well. Got back recently from church where we were having a spring clean, ready for the funeral on Monday of our oldest member, who died on Friday. She was born and bred in the town here, and used to run the general store, so we expect the church to be packed... hence we had to scrub the balcony, which isn't often used (except by bats).

Now escaping outside to do some potting on before tea.

Evening folks. Stayed on a bit in work as we were busy so just had a lush shower in new lavender body wash and now prepping a Chinese supper - extra prawn toasts as I didn’t have lunch.

I took some tomato plants to work today and plenty of takers. I love doing that and then hearing how they getting on, often an emergency message on what to do!

I hope you are all ok and the weekend is being kind.

Good evening all. Well I did manage to rescue the hanging baskets but with nowhere at presnt to hang them, I have stood them on the top of a wall trough outside the kitchen window. The basket with the Tumbling Tom tomatoes is hanging from the trough. I think that the baskets are heavy enough not to get blown over.
Pleased to hear that your garden was looking lovely on your return @Butterfly6 - its always a concern when you are away on holiday. Hope you had a great trip to the GC and lovely lunch with your sister @lizzie27. @Penny_Forthem I was a squash and badminton player too. I hope you aren't too exhausted after your baby sitting stint @Busy-Lizzie. I bet you have had loads of fun.

A very good morning one and all. White rabbits! A pinch and a punch for the first of the month. A lovely sunny start to this new month - long may it continue - with the odd rain storm to keep our plants fresh and happy.
