No, Corydalis roots aren't really trappable in that way as one plant is made up of lots of tiny growing nodes, not a central root ball system.

On the plus side, it may finally have cured me of the desire to grow Corydalis. Spent £40 on 4 plants this yr. One (the aforementioned Tory MP) is wilting, one had one flower, and the other two have no flowers or buds, though the foliage is healthy. I love the blue shades, but they are disappointingly unreliable plants.

Not precisely my garden, but definitely me and plants.
I toddled off to a plant sale (near St Austell) full of good intentions not to buy much,. It was going to be a bag full (alright a big bag full, plants are quite big.) all was going well until halfway round the bag was full so I went back to the car and got another bag.

It's not a plant I grow @ViewAhead because I don't like the blue colour, which are the most commonly for sale, but I believe there's a good yellow one, and I think there's a white - I'm sure I've seen a white one in a garden somewhere near here. I've read that they're better if planted in autumn in drier areas, so perhaps that would work better for you? I know they prefer moister/richer soil, so maybe your soil is a bit too light for them - only you can judge that bit though.
It's certainly an expensive loss if they fail!
Did nothing much yesterday as the rain arrived just when I was doing some repotting. Had to go out anyway so it didn't matter. Today is a more reliable looking one- weather wise, so I should get some self seeded plants shifted which are in the wrong place, and maybe plant out a couple of things that are kicking about. Still haven't tidied the front hedge up, so might try and do that. The toms I planted into the gr'house soil are coming on, but the other ones are still rather slow.

Day off for me with a committee meeting am and patwork group pm, not that anyone's doing patchwork at the mo.

I shall be taking plantlets tho - baby green asparagus and ratibida columnifera (Mexican Hat). I also have spare cucumbers and squashes but no takers so will have to try the neighbours.

Planted out the radicchio and cavolo nero yesterday and pricked out more seedlings and then nearly finished sorting out all my nursery pots yesterday. Some losses and more volunteer ash seedlings than anyone needs but mostly looking good after being weeded and re-potted or top dressed. Just half a dozen pots left to do but I ran out of compost at 7pm and decided I'd better get clean and cook dinner.

Happy gardening today for those who can.

Watered at the Allotments in the morning. In the afternoon, we spent more time getting summer pots ready. We even managed to squeeze a few more things into the borders.
Nearly forgot, we liberated the Lemons from their winter protection the day before.
Must start pruning the Acers soon, they are getting very "hairy ".

I love the blue colour, @fairygirl. I do grow white Dicentras, which are similar in many ways. If someone could develop a clear blue one, my life would be a lot simpler!

I've decided not to buy any more Corydalis. The most reliable seems to be Calycosa, so I will stick with that one, dividing it as necessary to keep it happy. If the others (Elata (allegedly, but the jury is out till (if) it flowers), Blue Summit, Tory MP, and Craigton Blue) survive, fine, but I am not going to fret!

Looking at the forecast for tomorrow, I predict lots more snappage! :hate-shocked:

Picked some more strawberries and red currants. Amazing crops this year (need to be quiet about the currants as usually the blackbirds take most of them, maybe they haven't heard).
Then the "lawn" was mown and yet again paths cleared from the plants that do love growing over them.
Picked some kale and swiss chard.

Is it me or is there an absolute invasion of cuckoo spit insects this yr? (I forget their proper name.) Seems to be all over the place and I have cleared copious amounts off my Rosemary two days in a row only to find it back in force by the next morning.

We also have loads of field bindweed in many areas of the garden. Never noticed it before but this year it is rampant.

Well just add it to the list, Aphids aplenty here , green, black and just seen on the newly planted Brassicas grey. Add the Ermine moth on the Apples, and a cutworm chewing on one of the raddish . I'm sure there's more.:frown:

Today I removed all the flower stalks off my Geums which were in various levels of decline and gave them some liquid seaweed in the hope that more flowers will follow. I then trimmed one of my Griselinia hedges plus the two large Box balls in containers which I have had for over 20 years. I removed some of the leaves off my Buddleias which have been infected with an aphid, as mentioned in another current thread and then watered all my containers.

I planted 30 runner bean plants, 5 varieties. Should have been 6 but 1 batch didn't germinate. I hope we get something, they don't like the summer heat in SW France.
