Hello @Busy-Lizzie, yes, it does take some adjustment but one thing Jack always agreed with me on was seizing the day. It sounds as though you will have a super afternoon today and a wonderful celebration on Sunday.

Morning everyone, still wet here, hopefully it will dry up a bit so I can get to the plots. I have beans that need planting. I've also got two bags of compost for one of my friends. He has no car so he had some delivered to his flat, and he's been bringing it a bit at a time on the bus!

Not a lot done yesterday by the time I had my hair cut and my feet sorted out. I feel as if I am walking on clouds at the moment. Lovely.
I felt fine in myself all day but very tired by the time I came home so did a workout in my recliner chair.
Although it has been windy with a few downpours we have not had the expected storm so I am hoping to repot the tomatoes today and move them to the greenhouse.
Rib eye steak with creamy mushroom sauce and crispy kale for dinner tonight.
There is a stirring in my loins to make some chocolate chip cookies. Probably not today.

I have finally been able to see exactly what the small birds nesting under my eaves look like. I had faint hopes they were house martins or swallows but they sat still long enough on the guttering, scolding me for being close to their nest site, for me to see they are house sparrows. They are both diving in and out every few minutes so must be feeding young ones.

Good morning. Busy day so far with blood test then opticians for new glasses. The nurse's face fell when I walked in as it is always difficult finding a vein that wants to provide samples but I'd sat pumping my fist for 10 minutes so it wasn't too bad. Home now having much needed juice and coffee.

New glasses will get a test drive this morning as I have a 22km drive to the SM then all the shopping to do on my own as OH is away. They have add on anti glare lenses for night driving and also sunshades, neither of which I will need today as it's grey and still a bit showery.

No particular plans for the rest of the day after shopping but I think I probably have to tidy and clean the kitchen and oil the oak refectory table while nobody's underfoot. Still have the arm facings to do on my new frock.

Enjoy your lunch @Ladybird4. I understand but no point dwelling on future losses @Busy-Lizzie. Enjoy your friends while you can.

Have fun everyone, whatever you're doing today.

I am still "breaking in" my new glasses. It takes time, I feel like a nodding budgerigar, trying to find the correct area of lens to look through. I have a change of colour tint this time, from brown to grey but do not notice any difference. It is useful as our weather keeps changing from cloudy to sunshine, not having to change glasses does make life much easier.

Rang Ford to book my appointment - easy I thought. Hah! On a very bad line I was asked about my car. First of all the registration number, which I gave, question from lady 'Is this a personalised number plate?' Answer 'Yes it is.' Question 'What is the original registration number?' Me in my head 'Hellooo how on earth am I supposed to remember that?' Response to lady 'Well I wasn't asked to have that to hand so I have no idea.' Further questions followed and by this time I'm losing the will to bother. I remember @Obelix-Vendée's advice in not telling them my low mileage etc. but unfortunately that was one of the questions posed after how old was the car so I had to 'fess up. To cut a long story short, my car is booked in for August 29th at 08:30 and despite being told in the letter it will take under half an hour, lady on phone told me three hours! As my dealership is miles away from any suitable public transport route I am a bit fed up. Not to worry I have the letter still (which I was told to leave in the car) and thank goodness I didn't recycle it and in there it states the half hour anticipated time. I am going to ring my contact at the dealership to ask what is going on. I think the number I called today was just a hub to coordinate and not based at my dealership.

Flying visit, as we are packed and ready to go, suitably provisioned @Ladybird4!
I have packed a bottle of Cremant de Loire, which we had 'left over' from Christmas. Seems an appropriate time to crack it open.
Hope you all have an enjoyable day.

Morning all, just watching the rain clouds scud across the sky and wondering if we can get to the papershop/bakery without getting wet.
My son arrived yesterday evening and is working from 'home' up in the loft today. It's lovely I'll probably give him a lift into town prior to the rugby match tonight. Hope Bath win!

On the train to Bath! I’m dog sitting for the weekend, while son and wife have a weekend away to celebrate his birthday. After looking at the weather forecast, I’ve come armed with a puffa jacket and raincoat plus my waterproof shoes! Hoping to sneak into town tomorrow and have a mooch around in the shops. Don’t actually need anything, but it’ll be fun to look.

                      Good afternoon all.

Thanks, @Ladybird4 - we're trying not to be frustrated about the fibre installation, since there's nothing we can do about it. And since we're going on holiday very shortly, there are plenty of pleasant things to think about...

One of the things we like to see in Finland in June, are lots of wild lupins along the roads and railway lines. It seems they haven't yet been discovered by that revolting American species, the lupin aphid. Unfortunately aphids arrived on the lupins in my front garden this year, though (shhhh!) they haven't noticed the lupin plants in the nursery bed in the back. The advice seems to be physical removal, plus leaving them for natural predators. But the bluetits seem to ignore them completely, and I haven't seen any ladybirds or lacewings around anywhere. I've had to cut off a lot of the worst affected flower spikes, because I can't keep up with squashing them or blasting them off with the hose.

Well, I've packed sunglasses, waterproofs, sweaters and summer tops. The forecast for Finland is decidedly mixed!

Dare I say, bliss here. No traffic noise at all. Birds a plenty and dogs fast asleep after a good run.
Greek salad, potato salad, eggs mayo and Cumberland sausage swirls for supper.
There are things missing from our basic larder, but we will not go hungry tonight.
We were last here in March, which wasn't salad season, so mayo is in short supply. Just enough for tonight.
                        Phew...

Best to be prepared @Liriodendron. I hope you enjoy the whole trip.

Didn't sleep well last night so ended up dozing off on the sofa after lunch which means I've only just finished emptying and cleaning the dishwasher and clearing and cleaning all the counters. Had hoped to get outside and plant some wtrawberries but that will have to wait till tomorrow.

Hope everyone's had a good day. Mooching n shops is my idea of torture @Ergates

Whip some up @Penny_Forthem ? I like it with a good splash of Dijon mustard in it, or tarragon.

                              Bit difficult on the caravan.
                              Ditto the dijon and tarragon.
Must bring tarragon vinegar up here.

I have felt more cheerful today.

I enjoyed the rose group meeting. People took some of their roses to the meeting and told us what they were. I took in a bowlful of roses. It smelt lovely, I could smell the scent of them in the car. We, 10 of us, had a good chat then looked around Jane's garden. She has a lot of ramblers on a big pergola, other roses too and glorious views across the Charente countryside. After that we went in for tea. It was raining so we couldn't have it outside like last year. There were sandwiches, sausage rolls and carrot cake.

It tipped with rain on the way home. My roses are all looking a bit battered now.
