@waterbut I agree with @Butterfly6 and I would just leave them. I gave the wall ivy its annual trim today and it looks a mess at the moment but will soon green up. Both my green bins are stuffed full so its a good job it is their week for being emptied. Ironically, after I had finished watering everywhere it started to rain and is decidedly dull and damp here now. My neighbour gave me a sunflower today and I gave her a long bamboo cane and several large pots. She is growing sunflowers with her little daughter and also some veggies. I had given her 3 tomato plants earlier.
I found out that Jack's funeral is on Thursday 3rd July so I will not be going to my Bestie's that day but it is our First Friday meal out the day after so we will be able to catch up then.

Good morning all from a comfortably cool, drizzly start here. Whatever you have planned for today I hope you have a wonderful time. I cannot remember when @Obelix-Vendée is setting out for her English trip but Bon Voyage anyway!

          Good morning all.

We enjoyed lunch with our friends yesterday. We had drinks indoors and lunch outside. OH had set the table, put up 3 parasols and set up the fan. Tim forgot to tell me he didn't like salmon and his wife didn't like asparagus and I'd made a smoked salmon and asparagus quiche. The other couple and our friend whose husband died recently had 2nd helpings. I was glad I'd made lemon chicken as well. We had taboulé and green salad with avocado as well. The best thing was seeing them all and having a good chatter. We hadn't seen Tim and B for some time as they sold their house here and moved to Devon.

          Sunny, forecast 32C this afternoon.
Tomorrow will be hotter and there is a walk organised by the Randonnée Club in the morning, followed by lunch in a local village restaurant. Not sure I can manage it if it's hot. Maybe it will be OK as it's in the morning. There's a choice of two walks so I could do the shorter one.

I can rest now all of my orders have arrived. I am very happy with the shrub I ordered for my sister's grave. It was well packed, no damage, and delivered on time. A well grown plant, I will look after it until Oct. when my niece comes to visit. They can take it home and plant it, a good time of year for planting it.
My daughter's smellies also arrived, I am quite jealous, very tempted to keep them for myself! Just have to get them all wrapped.
I am off to the local GC today to buy some poles to support the curtains I am using as shading in the greenhouse.
After unloading bags of grit, sand and compost from my car, onto a sack trolley, then down steps into the garden, my back went on strike, enough excitement for one day, so I sat and watched tennis, the run up to Wimbledon in a couple of weeks time.

Morning. I'm worn out, just reading about your exertions, @Goldenlily26!
I am about to water everything, before we head to the van. We have to pop home on Friday anyway, as hub is on the village watering rota and I have a chiropodist appointment. We will return to the van till Sunday. It should be cooler in the hills.
My tomatoes are in quadgrows, so in theory, they shouldn't go thirsty.
I think I might have had 2 helpings of that delicious food too, @Busy-Lizzie!

                Good morning to you all!!

Que calor hace!! It seems that you are getting the heat as well. Fizz and I were out at 8am this morning for a cool run - only 21°C. By 9am the mercury had hit 24°C !! I had a load for the tip so went straightaway, came home watered the garden jumped into the shower! I have made a pasta salad for lunch

Quiet times from now on - it's too hot to stray too far from home. I'm not a beach person now.

Stay cool and drink plenty of water or cold tea. I have just made some with red fruit. A sachet or two and it is a refreshing drink in the afternoons.

PS. I have no idea why this has gone into tiny print!!

Evening everybody, we're back home after a few days away staying with my sister and her partner near Leicester. We had a lovely family meetup as my elder brother came down from Manchester and it was so good to see everybody.
We were all very busy on Monday helping her to organise her French style Afternoon Tea for Macmillans which took place yesterday.

Fortunately the weather was glorious so we were able to set out six table and chair sets under 3 big umbrellas on her terrace. My sister is very talented at displays and she'd gone to town on the French theme so we had French signs, balloons, bunting, pom poms with French accordian music to set the mood. Very oo la la!!

I did individual pink flower posies in glass vases for each table. OH and my sister's friend did all the sandwiches, I iced the big 3 tier cake my sister had baked (but forgot to put the jam on top of the butter icing) and Alice iced 18 chocolate cupcakes and then put tiny paper French flags on each one.

After greeting each guest with a glass of pink fizz, the afternoon went very quickly and I think everybody enjoyed themselves. I think we had nearly £200 in donations for the charity.

What a great day it's been. We've had a lovely chat with our new neighbour NDBO at the van and our immediate neighbours.
Just come back from a run with the dogs, now it's cooler.
Not much to watch on tv, so probably a bit of Clarksons farm.
Against my better judgement, I have warmed to it.

Out with a friend and dog this morning, before it got too hot. Then I’m not sure what happened to the rest of the day! I did a quick and easy lunch, strips of free range pork fried with onion and red pepper, and then a sachet of ready to heat egg fried rice. I did a FaceTime with a friend, and watered some plants, and suddenly the day was nearly over. I did pay a couple of bills, but not much to show for the day. At least I spend a little time sitting out enjoying the garden.
                          What a glorious view, @Liriodendron.
The French afternoon tea sounds like great fun, @lizzie27. Wonderful to have a family get together.

Good evening all. Oh what a shame @Busy-Lizzie - all the more for those that did like the salmon and asparagus. I would have thought I was in heaven with a menu such as that. Good job you had the chicken. @Goldenlily26 was it the myrtle that you had on order? @lizzie27 your French style Afternoon Tea sounds absolutely delightful and such an impressive amount of money made for such a worthy cause. Macmillan nurses looked after my Dad. I waited until late to water in the greenhouse as it was way too hot before. Green bins - groaning under the weight of rambling rose and ivy have been put out at the end of the drive and milk bottle is on the step. Thats me done for the day and I'm away to read now so I will say a very good evening to you all and see you in the morning.

I see I’ve missed a lovely sunny day whilst in work. We kept saying it would be too hot to do anything anyway (through gritted teeth).

I hope everyone is ok. Catch up tomorrow.

I had planned to do some gardening before it got too hot this morning but I overslept then daughter rang and we chatted for 2 hours! I did some gardening after that but it was too hot.

This afternoon we bought a new
rectangular sunshade parasol for the patio. We had one already but it wasn't quite big enough. The two together keep the table shaded.

We had the rest of the quiche with prawns and salad for dinner.
