There are very few old GW on iplayer @Thevictorian which seems a shame. They only go back about 8 months or so

That's something that could easily be changed by the BBC though.

Depends who has the rights. GW with GH was not a BBC production and that also showed in the camera work, subtitles for plant names and subjects covered when they took in house.

      Oops, I knew I'd forget. Thanks @Bluejayway . I keep thinking it's Wednesday :rolleyespink:.

      8pm tonight. That's TONIGHT

" Longmeadow is exploding with summer colour, and Monty is adding even more interest with a couple of ornamental grasses. He’s got scented-leaf pelargoniums to pot up and in the veg garden, there’s garlic to harvest.

Toby Buckland visits Stockton Bury Gardens in Herefordshire, a horticultural gem that’s steeped in history, and meets the owner, who takes huge pride in his work. And Sue Kent is in her garden for a midsummer treat as her roses come into full bloom.

There’s a self-confessed fern fanatic in Wiltshire whose back garden is filled with them. Plus a lady with a garden overlooking Lyme Bay who is making the most of the microclimate to grow a wide range of exotic plants."

Maybe it's just me, but I seem to be watching a more upbeat Monty over the last few weeks. Perhaps it's the time of year, I know he's suffered from SAD in the past.

Interesting results in the garlic harvest. It was nice to see a failure, if you know what I mean.
The results of Sue's seed sowing were also interesting, I was hoping that the 40 year old seeds might produce something but it didn't seem to be the case.

I enjoyed the trip to Stockton Bury. I visited there a few years ago and there were some definitely quirky things going on. Personally I like Toby Buckland, and he certainly seemed to hit it off with the owner. Don't know if I'd spend my days grinding down old terracotta pots, but fair play to the gentleman. Waste not, want not.

Ferns....very old plant species. I learnt that much, but I'm afraid not for me.

Thanks @Bluejayway and @AnniD for the reminder.
To be honest, I’m on sick leave for months now and when I saw GW in the program guide on telly yesterday, I thought it’s Friday. The more surprised were OH, OAP since May, and I today when we learned it’s Friday. Anyway, I will watch GW tonight and Beechgrove.

No you won't @simone_in_wiltshire . GW was on last night cos of Glastonbury. You can see it at 9am tomorrow on BBC2.

Beechgrove will go out as usual tonight and again on Sunday morning. If anyone's interested, Carole Klein's Cottage Garden is on again at 6:30am on BBC2 on Sunday.

I enjoyed the garden in Lyme Regis.
The fern garden chap knew a lot, but the garden wasn’t the best to put it mildly. He is lucky to have dappled shade.
I was wondering that Monty can grow opium poppies. I thought this wasn’t allowed.

Opium poppies are a lot safer to grow and handle then Aconitum or Digitalis. Roses and brambles are a lot more likely damage you than Papaver somniferum.
The level of opiates in opium poppies is very low and they taste incredibly bitter and the opiates are produced as anti feedants.
There are a wide range of colours and forms available from seed suppliers.
Opium poppies are grown commercially in Hampshire for medicinal opiate production and while growing a few in your garden is not difficult, growing acres of them is quite tricky. Harvesting is done with a combine harvester and they take the seed capsules and top few inches of stem; before grinding it all up, solvent extraction, purification, separation of the components and more purification to get the separate opioids in a usable form.

We are rather behind with this only caught up with the GW live and the FT episode over the last couple of eves. I don't watch to learn something every time but if I do it's a bonus. We do find with the episodes with FT, there's too much long range camera of her walking around and looking dreamy so that gets fast forward. I always like Chris Beardshaw, Adam and Carol proper gardeners all.
