Hello everyone, we've been away too. Just down to Somerset (Burnham on sea) where my wife's twin sister lives. The main reason for the trip was to go on down to Bovey Tracey to the House of marbles and Teign valley glass to pick up our round glass light shade. We have a ceiling light with five small globe shades, ages ago ( more then 5 years) one bulb exploded and took out one shade with it. We searched for a replacement, or even a whole light fitting but never found anything suitable. We asked at the glass works if they could make one, we gave them the broken one plus an intact one as a pattern. They have made two, one has a very slight flaw, but they gave it to us anyway. So now at long last we can get it back to how it should be Our journey down on Wednesday was trouble free, and we were doing well coming back yesterday pm right up to the last mile before our exit junction then dead stopped for 45 mins Accident.
It was notably cooler down there than up here, today is better but still no sign of rain. I note you've all been busy, lots to catch up on here.

Good evening all. @Goldenlily26 I am sorry to read that you are suffering and, having to cope with that and the heat and humidity must make it most unpleasant. Isn't it a shame that they can't be as quick with your results as they were with your appointment.
@Obelix-Vendée such an interesting report on your trip. You managed to cram a lot into a comparatively short amount of time. I'm not a lover of grasses and wouldn't want them in my garden. I hope that @Busy-Lizzie and her OH have a safe onward journey with no hold ups as experienced by @Allotment Boy. How wonderful to have your demaged light fitting repaired.

According to one lady at Church we had a tremendous thunderstorm last night -I never heard a thing though that may explain the dust all over my car this morning. There has been a pathetic amount of big fat raindrops this afternnon but nothing worth getting excited about. How is your OH today @Penny_Forthem? Fully back to normal I hope.

I suggested Gaviscon @Ladybird4. He took 2 and said, 'they don't work'. 'Hmmm, take regularly', I said. He had been much better today, thank you.
Still needs investigating, but he is much more cheery.

                Good night everyone.

It’s raining now quite steadily. I hope it continues for a bit to give the garden a good soak. We’ve had showers on and off all day, some heavier and longer lasting than others. It’s a good thing that my niece and her husband had their anniversary party yesterday because it was a lot warmer and, for the most part, drier. Also, there wasn’t the breeze we’ve had today.
A lazy evening in store for me, I think.

Glad to read you got your light fitting repaired, plus a spare one @Allotment Boy. You must be thrilled about that.

I hope your OH feels better soon @Penny_Forthem and that the gaviscon on helps. I agree though, it needs investigating if it’s a recurring problem. Glad he’s feeling more cheerful today, though.

We are at the Dieppe ferry port now. Smooth journey, wasn't so hot today and lorries aren't allowed on French motorways on Sundays.
We had dinner in a restaurant looking at boats.

My OH takes Gaviscon because of his hiatus hernia. He says it works.

You saw a varied selection of good gardens there @Obelix-Vendée , no wonder your fellow club members were impressed. I didn't know Lambrook had at last been sold, must make the effort to visit again. Again, I wasn't aware that Lady Farm was still open, I saw it many years ago and was bowled over by its fantastic design. I'm wondering whether they only open to organised parties now rather than the general public - I'll have to find out.

Glad your road trip through France was good @Busy-Lizzie, hope you have a smooth crossing to Newhaven. OH and a friend are going the other way next week, Harwich to Hook of Holland in his small 1938 old car. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they get there!

My GP recommended I take Gaviscon Advance for reflux, said it was far superior to the ordinary stuff but it is more expensive.

Shame about the delayed return trip @Allotment Boy but probably worth it just for the new light fitting.

                    Time for sleep I think.

A very good morning one and all. The tap controller in the sky has eased my watering job for today - gifting me, as well as @Blue arbour yesterday, with lots of rain through last night so it is only the tomatoes in the GH I will be seeing to first thing. The wind is blowing a hooley too. Hoping for a pottering day today and then tonight there is a friendly quiz at our home base. I hope that @Busy-Lizzie and her OH have a decent drive home today unless they are stopping over with rellies before their onwards journey. Time for tea and cereals now.

                        Good morning,
Similar weather here, too, @Ladybird4. The grass looks happier.
Coffee morning group today, then need to do a supermarket shop as the cupboards are bare. We were away when I usually go. Other than that, a fairly quiet day in store. May do a bit of deadheading if it remains fine.

If the Okra sets any fruit I will have a go at making Bindi Bahjee curry. The family will be receiving loofahs as Christmas presents if my plants set any fruit. Ha Ha!
The last of my Morello cherries are ready to be picked, I will stone them and freeze them with the first batch. My cunning plan is to wait until my son comes over from Canada in Oct. when I will poach the cherries in a little sugar syrup, thicken the syrup with a little cornflour and use it as a jam on some homemade scones as a tea time treat. All 15 cherries! How sad is that.
I still feel rough, really fed up. I don't know what to do with myself. I am very tempted to stop taking the new tablets and put myself back on Asprin to see what happens.
I had planned to finish planting out my veg. this week but cannot see it happening. It feels really cold this morning. The wind has gone around to the NW. I had to go round and close down the windows last night.

Poor @Goldenlily26, hope this is just a temporary down. How long have you been on the new tablets? Can you speak to a pharmacist at your GPPractice? They may be able to advise?
No rain here, but it’s overcast and windy this morning. Just as I typed that, the sun came out!
We have lots of jobs to do that we keep putting off, and looking for any excuse to abandon the lot and head out for coffee/lunch/ walk/ trip to the garden centre, any of those would do!
My back is still achey after overstretching a week ago, so I don’t want to put too much strain on it. A few years ago, I gave myself a hernia along the side of my abdomen during an over enthusiastic Zumba class, don’t want a repeat of that.
The grass needs a cut, and OH has managed to sort out the problem with the mower. However, we have already filled the green bins for Wednesday, so we might have to store the cuttings. I don’t do composting, my early attempts when we moved here turned into no go areas for wildlife, which I was reluctant, and too scared, to disturb!
Hope everyone travelling has smooth journeys.

                              Feeling decidedly gaga this morning.
Went to bed straight after the news last night, very tired. Was just falling asleep, when the carbon monoxide alarm went off. OH was out of bed like a shot; I'm afraid I wasn't. However, when he rang the fire brigade and then Wales and west utilities, I was up and about. To be fair, they came pretty pronto, checked everything, switched every gas appliance off and suggested getting a new alarm.
Of course, by then sleep had vanished.
He is still asleep, (I am quite glad!) but I have taken Bryn to his doggy daycare and organised a gas safe visit from our local gas expert for this afternoon, to reconnect everything.
                              Tesco also due this morning.
Family coming for supper. I might have to have a snooze sometime.
I agree with @Ergates, @Goldenlily26 about seeing a pharmacist. Hope you feel better soon.

Good morning. Sunny here with some clouds about so only expecting 25C today but I'll believe that when I feel it. Yesterday was much hotter than the 31C forecast. Tomorrow will be over 35C and Wednesday's storms and downpours have faded to a dribble.

I did very little yesterday other than watering as still exhausted after the trip and I have some sort of rhinitis which is irritating. I did start cataloguing my seeds tho.

Patchwork club this pm and Possum is coming to take photos for our new website she's creating. That'll be fun. I've asked OH to cut down an area of long grass above my new bed so I can plant a eucalyptus rubridia, grown from RHS seed scheme and now needing release from its pot. I want it to be a full sized tree, not coppiced.

East Lambrook has been bought by a couple who took posession last month @lizzie27. It had been under offer for over a year with a couple who wanted to close the garden and sack all the staff as well as messing about trying to reduce the price. The new pair had been living in the USA, saw it was for sale and pounced. They're keeping it open and keeping the staff and the volunteers and have already started renovating neglected areas.

The Lady Farm garden creator, Judy, is getting on now and had a stroke last year tho has recovered well. Her daughter welcomed us to the garden, handed out maps and a brief history and Judy stayed around to answer questions. She was clearly pleased by the enthusiasm and knowledge of our group but also worried about box blight in the formal beds by the house. I've given her a recipe for purin de prêle (horsetail tea) which is a natural fungicide. There's some growing in the car park so easy to make.

I hope all ailments and injuries improve today and that everyone has some fun or at least progress.
