There was a spider in my kitchen. He/she saw to the odd fruit fly before they got out of control. We had a good relationship.
This afternoon, I witnessed a false widow wrapping up my friend.
None too gently, I flicked it out the back door. I doubt it survived.
Nature red in tooth and claw, but I watched out for it peeping out of a redundant slot inn the window frame every morning.
The FWS would probably have been more efficient but that's not the point..
I know I shouldn't interfere and FWS gotta eat but who's going to pop out to see me in the morning

Completely unrelated but every year we go to the beach on Christmas day and on the trip there, they always play Ernie's song on the radio (that and little mouse on the stair song, is that little house in amsterdam or similar?). I've never understood why.

Max Bygraves got to number 5 in the hit parade in 1960 with "Fing's Ain't Wot They Used To Be". It says 'They turned our local Palais into a bowling alley and fing's ain't wot they used to be'.

The song was from a hit musical that was in the West End and was based on a play written about Cockney London in the 1950's. What puzzled me at the time was the 'local palais' referred to was the Super cinema at Stamford Hill which became the first bowling alley in England and it didn't open until 1960.

I used to go to the 'Super' regularly when it was a cinema but managed to get in to the second night of the bowling alley opening because the first night was only celebrities - I wasn't a celebrity in those days :heehee:.

Henry Cooper did the opening. The pavement outside was crowded with us plebs that turned up to watch all the famous people arrive.

I get a lot of giant house spiders. often see them running about at 2 am in late summer. theyre about 1 inch right now but get to 4 inches eventually. i think theyre cute. theyre almost blind so they arent aware of us really. no clue what they eat, the moths eating our crumbs probably.

Not as many spiders about here of any description as in past years - indoors or out. I like them so it's a bit disappointing.
