Another sunny day and we're off to the caravan for the weekend.
We had some rain forecast Saturday and Sunday, but I see that we may get some of the wet stuff Sunday. Not enough to drench the ground.
Oops, @Butterfly6 hope you have the arnica handy.
Hope Jack's funeral goes splendidly, @Ladybird4
I had to look up smacked cucumber.

        Good morning all.

It will be an emotional day for you @Ladybird4, I hope it goes smoothly.

Ouch @Butterfly6! I hope the soreness wears off quickly.

My dinner party was fun last night and everyone liked the food. There is some chicken Basquaise left and some pudding but I had made rather a lot. We'll have it for dinner.

Quiet day today, I think, involving ironing in front of the TV.

Thanks Tui, I had not thought about CBC. At the moment nothing has been said about the possibility of surgery, the GP now suspects a nerve problem of some kind. I will wait until the results of the next batch of X-rays are taken to see what they show. It is so exhausting and frustrating being in pain, not having an answer or being able to do anything about the pain.

Yesterday was pretty much a non day. Did some washing up, folded some laundry and made an egg custard before watching some wonderful games of tennis. I am quite exhausted, chasing tennis balls!
I had a strange dream last night linked to my visit to the Dr. He commented my feet were nice and clean when I removed my shoes and socks. In my dream my feet were thick with grime and Athletes Foot and I had huge holes in my dirty socks. Yuck! Our brains do weird things when we are asleep.
I managed to water the conservatory, I had planned to make an expedition to the greenhouse but it didn't happen. I planned to get up early and water the outside plants this morning but that hasn't happened yet. It looks as if it is going to be hot so that idea is going on the
          backburner.
I have a fluffy jumper soaking ready for a hand wash, fortunately, after going through the spinner of the washing machine it will only take a short time to dry.
It is a gorgeous day at the moment so I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

              Good morning all,

Hope the funeral goes ok @Ladybird4, Jack wouldn't have wanted you to be sad, by all accounts he'd had a long and happy life and you had been such a good friend/neighbour to him.

Thankfully it's cooler today and we've nothing much planned. My daughter has to go home this morning. OH arrived home last night at 6 ish last night, having left the Essex coast at 8 am. A very long, hot drive home in his very old Austin 10. He's glad to be home and so am I.

Cooler today. 28C so far but a breeze to make it feel comfy. Weekly shop done with OH and I bought a second sprinkler in the DIY on the way home. Too hot and dry to garden this pm so I shall potter indoors - all that fabric to fold properly and OH to measure for his new trousers.

I hope Jack's funeral has gone well @Ladybird4.

                Ouch @Butterfly6.

10 hours is a long time for that journey in an old car with no power steering or airco @lizzie27. Not for me.

Your dinner sounded lovely @Busy-Lizzie. Glad it went well.

For anyone wondering, there are recipes for smacked cucumber on BBC Good Food. We like ours spiced but they don't have to be.

                    Good afternoon!

It was showery this morning, but should be dry enough this afternoon for OH to mow the back lawn. I'll do the edges and fiddly bits (paths round the fruit trees in the meadow), and probably use the mower under the big apple trees, where fruit is weighing down the branches so they're uncomfortably close to the ground. I've thinned the fruit, but might need to do more to reduce the burden on the lower branches. There's no more room in the compost heap, so we'll be using a dumpy sack for the overflow.

It probably won't surprise anyone who remembers our fibre broadband saga, that we're still waiting to have it installed. The "duct team" were supposed to be here on Monday, then on Wednesday, to sort out a blockage (potentially involving digging up the road) before we can be connected. The friendly Liverpudlian who rang this morning seemed ignorant of the fact that there have been 6 phone calls between them and me, in the past week. "We couldn't get in touch with you", she said. She's supposed to be ringing back when she's sorted out what's happening, but I'm not holding my breath.

                    Thinking of you, @Ladybird4 .

                        Good afternoon,

It’s milder than yesterday and a lot less breezy. We managed to get the side hedge trimmed in our back garden this morning. It takes longer to clear up than cut because it’s a conifer hedge and the bits of conifer seem to go everywhere. If it’s fine in the morning we hope to tackle the front garden hedge which is also conifer. Luckily, there’s not so much to cut, just the bit that lies above the fence panels as it’s not our hedge, but our neighbours. He cuts the majority of it and we do the bit he can’t reach. Strictly speaking, the conifer at the back is also his, but again we do our side of it and as far along the top as we can reach. It all makes for good neighbourly relations. That one doesn’t have any fence panels in front of it, so there’s more to cut.

I hope Jacks funeral went well @Ladybird4. An emotional day for all of you, but I hope that fond recollections and anecdotes helped to make it more bearable.

Oh dear, @Butterfly6, that must have been a shock in your half asleep state. I hope you aren’t too battered and bruised. Bet you won’t do that again!

Smacked cucumber sounds intriguing @Obelix-Vendée . I’ll have look that up.

Good evening you lovely people and thank you for all the kind words. It was a very emotional service - but lovely and I managed to keep myself 'together' until I was mentioned in the eulogy as having been Jack's 'wonderful friend' for over 40 years and then my flood gates opened. There were lots of tales about his life and many funny ones at that. It was such a lovely day that I felt sure he was looking down on us and saying 'don't be silly'. Another chapter closed.
Oh my goodness @Butterfly6 I'll bet you were cursing those foxes. I hope that you are not too badly bruised and shaken up. Glad you had a lovely evening @Busy-Lizzie and pleased that your luscious food went down a treat. @Liriodendron, I was tempted to do a Victor Meldrew and say 'I don't believe it!' but having had interminable wrangles with Virgin Media over the last years, when I felt as though I was banging my head on a brick wall, then I do! Service providers of any description seem to be very lackadaisical about looking after their customers.

Good morning everyone. A little overcast at the moment but hoping that we do get some serious rain soon. Its first Friday so, as usual, we Quizzers are getting together for a pub lunch. I'm being picked up so that is a relief. Will have to do some watering first thing though.

                                Good morning all.

                                Enjoy your lunch @Ladybird4 .

The sun is streaming in from our bedroom window, while we have coffee in bed.

We are seeing friends this morning, to admire their new caravan.

Heating man is coming this afternoon as the valve that allows water heating has gone wrong. Good thing we have an immersion heater as well but it's more expensive than oil, being electric.
