Thanks. I was wondering if it was supposed to be something larger but has been dwarfed by living in the horrible inhospitable hole that it has found for itself.

Many plants were born in hell and find the flames to be a great comfort.
I saw a buddleia today, 2m tall and a meter wide growing in a crack in a wall 5m off the ground, in full bloom during a drought...

Thanks for that - I’d never heard of Patience Dock. I must look at the flower heads and flower spike again tomorrow.

A windy day here and the plant is on the pavement beside the road, so taking a photo of it proved quite tricky. Here is one with some white paper behind it to give a better view of the flower heads. They are in whorls, which docks don’t seem to be.Hmm.

I would say the lower flowers with those green wings and singular bumps as styles suggests a dock. Docks are monoecious meaning they have both male and female flowers seperately, I would hazard to say the lower ones are female and upper ones male, if you open up some and look for anthers without a style that may confirm it.

I think it looks odd as its probably malnourished.
