Good afternoon! The rain has stopped, I think, but it's been persistent and pretty heavy for nearly 24 hours. The garden will be grateful! And the temperature is around 17-18, much more my cup of tea.

Agreed about the cricket. We can't get Test Match Special any more in Ireland, which is a pity, but we were able to watch the highlights on BBC2 last night. Definitely edge-of-the-seat stuff!

I've been intrigued to see which flowers have coped OK with a week in the high 20s, and which have definitely not liked it. It's generally shortened the flowering period for a lot of annuals and perennials, though Verbena bon. has loved it, and the Phlox seems unmoved. Some roses have gone crispy or faded, R.rugosa, for instance, but others have revelled in the heat. 'Wollerton Old Hall' is in its second year, growing up the south side of our black-stained shed, in full sun, and looked wonderful until last night's wind and rain knocked off a lot of the petals. This is what it was like before the rain!

Instead of M & S, Prestatyn, we had a nice run out to Meols (pronounced Mells) on the Wirral to a GC with a Cotton Traders outlet. He got 2 pairs of shorts in the sale then I spied a pair of walking sandals in his size, half price. I wasn't going to get anything, but was seduced by a pair of navy shorts and a pink striped T.
We commented that we hadn't been clothes shopping 'in person' since before lockdown.
While pushing the trolley, a child, who was running out of Daddy's control, careered around a corner and crashed into it and started screaming. Loudly. I expected to be blamed for this, but thankfully, Daddy had seen it all and the kid was soundly told off.
I didn't even get to the plant section after that.

Good evening everyone. What a beautiful rose that is @Liriodendron and it looks so striking against the black of your shed. Nightmare @Penny_Forthem! A friend of mine has texted me to remind me that The Great British Sewing Bee starts again tonight. I was glad for that heads up as I hadn't looked at any listings - still in Wimbledon withdrawal - so that is my watching for tonight. Signing out now and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.

A very good morning one and all. I hope everyone had a good night. I had another early morning rescue to perform - thanks Cricket! I really enjoyed Sewing Bee last night (no spoilers) and this collection of 'sewers' seen to be much more advanced than the previous group. It was such fun to watch. Its dull and overcast today - maybe get some gardening done. Its green bin day tomorrow but both of my green bins are full to overflowing so I can't do too much cutting back until then.

            Good morning all.

Last night we went to see Twelfth Night in the open air in Cambridge in the King's College fellows garden. Can't remember when I was last so cold. Glad I brought 2 macs, one to wear and one on my lap. It rained and it was windy. OH went back to the car in the interval to get my extra cardigan as I was shivering. Anyway, the play was good and the acting was excellent.

We ate in an Indian restaurant first which OH had booked but it was a bit of a walk away and my foot was hurting again. We passed several nice restaurants on the way so I wondered why that one.

The waterbutts are full to the top so I won't have to fill them before we leave on Sunday.

Today is the anniversary of our blessing. We are going out to lunch in Southwold.

Good morning @Busy-Lizzie and good wishes to you and your OH. It was amazing to read about you being so cold last night. Our weather is weird and wonderful! Glad you enjoyed Twelfth Night though.

Good morning to one and all!!

Happy Day for you and Cedric today @Busy-Lizzie Nice to mark the day with a special meal .

Dashing off to the markets before it gets too hot - yes, the heat is on and so is the fire warning. 35°C expected this arvo but by the weekend the temperatures should be more clement at 27°C.

Good morning all, another bright and breezy day. Glad you got to see your twelfth night @Busy-Lizzie . My wife and one of her daughters were at Regent's park open theatre last night for Noughts and crosses ( theme based on Romeo and Juliet). They only made it as far as the interval and it was rained off, the stage was too wet to continue. Of course we only had a light sprinkle here, again. I'm beginning to adopt my father's old joke that we are in the dustbowl of England as the rain keeps passing us by.

                    Happy Anniversary @Busy-Lizzie

It was quite cool here last night, sunny intervals forecast for today. Am not friends with the Met or BBC Weather. My forecasted rain yesterday, 80-95% 10am to 4pm, was a 30 minute shower! I would share @Obelix-Vendée but it was a measley 1mm dribble according to the rain gauge. We did get another shower in the night, but squinting at the rain gauge from the window it’s only another 1mm at best.

Anyway, I still had an indoors day and did some HW. Our visit to John Lewis in the morning was as unproductive as the rain clouds. There were no offcuts for sale at all and I’m sure their in store stock is far less than it used to be. There were far more sample catalogues than actual rolls of cloth. I did treat myself to a lovely new jumper (couldn’t resist despite the weather) and picked up a new bra, so the journey wasn’t completely wasted. Needless to say neither item was in the sale. I might have a look round the local charity shops first some fabric, maybe an old pair of curtains.

Planning a Sutton Park walk this morning and working this afternoon. More fans of Sewing Bee here, even though I rarely sew and OH never. I enjoy the people watching and the creativity on display. We haven’t watched it yet, we tend to watch things on catch-up these days and rarely in line with the actual schedules.

Hope everyone has had a good nights sleep and has a good day today x

Forgot to say, lovely rose @Liriodendron. I can feel the need for another climbing rose coming on. I might suggest a visit to DA. OH got a voucher for Peter Beales for Father’s Day, and has a shrub rose in mind, Smiling Sun, but it’s unavailable at the moment.

I share your pain @Allotment Boy. I don’t think we are in the dust bowl but we are certainly perched on the edge. Looking at the radar forecast for yesterday there was lots of intense rain showers heading towards us but they all must of swerved at the last minute :noidea:

Some rain at last, not a lot. But better than nothing.
Yesterday was a long haul. The radiographer said my GP was looking for arthritis, when I commented I wondered if my replacement joint had worked loose slightly, he was all ears. Asked me several questions. I have to wait for the results. The visit to the chiropodist was not as painful as I was expecting, feet feel lovely this morning. It has made no difference to the pains in my leg so it is not an ingrowing toenail being the root cause.
I was shattered when I came home. Sat and mouldered for the rest of the evening.
I felt very "wooly", my BP was probably sky high as I had got myself worked up about the appointments. I have an appointment for an ECG at mid day, life is so exciting.

I had a special treat yesterday as I received a hand-written, long letter from a friend. Such a treat.
I was very frustrated to discover because I do not have a mobile phone I cannot change electricity suppliers because they do not accept land line tel. nos. Surely I am not the only person who does not have a mobile. I find this happens more and more often now when ordering on line . No mobile, no order. I feel as if I am being bullied into buying something I do not want, have no use for and do not want to waste my money on.

I hope everyone is sound, enjoying some rain at last and not overdoing things because it has cooled down.

A couple of days ago I heard a program on the radio and last night saw an item on TV about plants making sound waves. I love the idea of plants chatting to each other, their noises control what insects and grubs etc. do on plants. Avoid them if the plant is in distress etc. Another new world to be explored. Amazing! What modern technology is giving us is mind blowing.

Am not surprised you felt shattered @Goldenlily26. I do think we sometimes underestimate how draining it is when we are unwell and don’t know the cause. I have had eye problems for the last 12 months or so and although it doesn’t impact hugely on my day to day life, there is always a niggle in your mind whilst waiting for the latest tests and then waiting for the test results. Hope you have a better day today x

I can just imagine all our plants grumbling about the heat and lack of rain

Morning all, well, we're sat here still waiting for the builders to arrive. No texts, no phone calls so who knows? Refilled the bird feeders earlier and took the precaution of pruning a wayward rose out of the builders way - if they come.
We had very heavy rain last night so the garden has thankfully had a very good soak. I suspect the two largest waterbutts I'd emptied before we went away in case they had to be moved by the builders are now full up again! I'll have to go and inspect them later.

That is such a shame @Busy-Lizzie that it rained on the play and you got so cold, rather puts one off getting tickets for future open air events. Happy Anniversary.

Do hope your leg pain gets sorted soon @Goldenlily26, it's dragging on a bit isn't it? Did your son manage to get back from Calgary ok?

I'm astounded that you can't swop electricity suppliers because you haven't got a mobile phone - I rather think they are not allowed to do that. Can you complain to the ombudsman do you think?

I feel much better today which is just as well as I've a mountain of ironing to do after our long weekend away. The garden's calling as well so might do alternate stints on both.

                                Have a good day.
