Good news about OH @Penny_Forthem. I hope you both get a good sleep and that his problems are fixed soon.

We have had intermittent downpours all day lasting just a few minutes at a time and with quite a lot of noisy thunder so not sensible to try any hoeing and weeding. Leaving the washing out had pretty feeble results then.

I ended up spending my day researching bits of this and that online and then cutting out a pair of trousers for OH - new, tailored pattern so I thik the fly and waistband are going to be fiendish so I'm doing a "toile" before tackling them in the linen we bought. Unlike chappy on the Sewing Bee last night i did measure first. OH has lost weight recently but his belly is still generous and only a few cms less than his bum/hips. "Tut" I said. " No more cheese and beer for you for a while".
    Grump, grump.

Sounds like a lovely day @lizzie27. When will the building work be finished.

Have a good time at the food bank @Ladybird4.

    Sweet dreams everyone.

I hope all is well tonight @Penny_Forthem. You’ll both be shattered.

Another 12 hour shift done. I’ll be taking my achy feet off to bed soon.

I hope everyone is doing ok. No dramas please folks!

We are home now, been busy so just catching up.

What a horrid shock that must have been for you both @Penny_Forthem, but I'm glad to read that your OH is back home. I hope you both sleep well.

So relieved your OH is recovering. What a worry for you both.
Lovely to meet up with old friends! I’ve recently made contact with girls I was at school with ( we are all now 74) Delightful to find that they all seem to have grown into people I’m happy to know, even the awkward ones. As for my closest friends, no matter how long the gap has been, it seems like it was only yesterday.
OH didn’t surface until gone 10am, and then suggested we went out for breakfast. Halfway there, we realised that we wouldn’t get there until they had stopped serving breakfast. So we had a walk first and then a very early lunch! Followed by another walk.

When we got home, I emptied the wall trough. It was full of yellow chrysanthemums from last year, getting leggy and no sign of flowering. They have gone into a pot and will be banished to the sunny side of the house to see if they will flower. I’ve replanted the trough with a fuschia and the lobelia I grew from seed.
On my last trip to Sainsbugs, they had a rack of half dead plants outside. A pack of lilac double petunias caught my eye, one of the four plants was completely dead, and the other three were looking pretty sorry for themselves . No price on the pack, so I thought I’d ask, in the hope that they would be heavily reduced. The manager who was summoned to do a price check took a good look at them, and told me there would be no charge, and to take them home with their compliments!
They have perked up after a good drink, and are now happily settled in the trough. Lots of new flowers coming, and such a pretty colour.
OH is watching a women’s football match. Quite amusing, he hates men’s football, but finds the women’s games more interesting, with fewer drama queens!

Hello everyone. His majesty is fed and has gone out for a wander and I've had my cereal and first cuppa. There was a delightful item on the news about a rare snow leopard cub being born at Chester Zoo. It is just so cute and it's face markings - when looking face on - make it look proper grumpy. So nice to have a bit of light hearted news for a change.
It will be great being home again @Busy-Lizzie and I'm willing to bet you will be out in your garden asap. I'm going to try that approach @Ergates. My Mum used to despair of me 'rescuing' plants from supermarkets.
I'll catch you all later so enjoy your days whatever you have planned.

              Good morning all.

My garden is still alive, apart from two small fuchsias but droopy in places. The veg garden is OK. I picked runner beans, tomatoes and two courgettes. There were 2 big cucumbers in the utility room fridge that Chris must have put there.

Both daughters and their six children, mostly teenagers are coming today for lunch today and tomorrow and staying the night. A Poitiers grandson has an orthodontist appointment with DIL in Périgueux. Other daughter lives nearer here and wants to see her sister.

We did a big food shop yesterday afternoon and I cleaned the study and put a put you up bed in it. I shall clean the two spare bedrooms and prepare lunch this morning. They can make the beds. They are bringing a tent and some blow up mattresses but rain is forecast so the mattress may have to go in the sitting room.

                Morning all.

Your energy puts me to shame, @Busy-Lizzie ! Hope your visitors help with the cooking.

The sun is shining so I must put the washing out before I do anything else. I think there's now a proper picking of runner beans to have for lunch - half a dozen at least - and there are More Weeds... Yesterday I managed to mix a large quantity of compostable stuff (lupin stems etc) with the contents of the bucket in which I'd put the ripening seeds, dandelion roots etc destined for the rubbish, and had to spend an annoying length of time sorting it out. I was tempted to chuck it all, but the compost heap was beginning to smell of silage (too much grass) and needed the woody stems mixed in. Hopefully it'll get hot enough to cook most of the seeds I missed in the sorting!

Morning. We slept a good 10 hours. Uneventful night.
I am treating a friend to lunch today for her birthday.
@Ladybird4 we did manage to zip up to the van on Tuesday. Luckily, the roof vent wasn't wide open, but on its night latches.
We'd planned another long weekend there, but I think we'll see how we feel tomorrow. I've done a lot of driving recently and feel I need a day off! The rush hour journey to the hospital yesterday was particularly stressful.
Got to do some shopping today, sometime!
Enjoy your family get together @Busy-Lizzie
We should start the RSRSP. Royal society for the rescue of sick plants. I've also got some of those petunias @Ergates

                    Morning everybody,
so pleased you both had a good night @Penny_Forthem , I agree, take it easy and see how you feel. It's the emotional feeling that takes it toll as well as the physical.
I'm still waiting for the GP pharmacy lady to call back, scheduled for 10 am but hasn't rung yet. She is going to sort out my meds and needed to know exactly how many pills I have left of each kind.
Think I'll crack on this morning whilst it's dry and attack the stump of the bush I cut down earlier as the builders are coming on Monday. Will definitely need OH's help for that job.

Glad your garden and house are okay @Busy-Lizzie, but what a lot of visitors! Hopefully the teenagers will muck in and help. My granddaughter is 14 today, where does the time fly. We're all going out for a triple birthday lunch at the weekend.

Went for a waddle down the lane to try and get my hips working again. Very stiff. Sunny all day and very breezy.

My son and daughter in law have sorted out my ex's paperwork, 5 black sacks. Bank statements going back to the 50's! We used to need to keep receipts in case we needed to complain about a product. No receipt, no want to know. My daughter in law is very organised with spread sheets etc so all relevant paper work has been condensed down into 5 folders with dividers for future reference. They are trying to find a suitable nursing home for my ex to be moved to as he is in a stroke unit and they need the bed. Nursing homes are extremely expensive in Berkshire, with very few spaces available so they have their work cut out. According to my son they have a plan.
My daughter is back in the UK tomorrow, difficult for her. I assume they will go straight to the hospital after landing.
They were skinny dipping in a glacier lake a couple of days ago! I bet that produced a few goose bumps and reduced a few bits and pieces to wrinkly nothingness! They have had a wonderful trip.

I am going to do a supermarket online shop today and I am going to give driving a go at the week-end, hopefully.

I hope all has calmed down now Penny, and you OH is catching his breath again.

Greetings. Weekly shop this morning and now just having a cuppa before doing lunch. OH queued at the fish counter while I went to the butchers' counter and he's treated us to some prawns to have with our avocado and salad lunch.

Expecting a couple of showers this pm but only 1mm in total so the latest wash is now out on the line and I may well tackle the weeds proliferating, like yours @Liriodendron, in the new bed while I have OH to help. He's golfing near Nirot tomorrow and I have errands to run in La Roche, including taking our old TV to the community repair shop so it can have a second life somewhere.

Glad you both had a good night @Penny_Forthem.

Enjoy your birthday meal @lizzie27. Don't strain yourself hacking that shrub.

X-rays don't show muscle or ligament or nerve problems @Goldenlily26 and many GPs are doubtful of problems they can't see - until they get to an age where they feel it in their own body! However, any yoga or pilates teacher or decent physio knows about exercises and massages to fix such things, improve mobility and relieve pain.

Glad your garden is OK @Busy-Lizzie and how lovely to have your daughters invade for a weekend.

Take care all and have a lovely afternoon.

A working day most of today, just finished. OH is busy painting a bathroom cupboard for me, or was. He’s currently having a coffee between coats.

Glad you are settled at home @Penny_Forthem and OH is feeling ok. Welcome home to @Busy-Lizzie as well

Our runner beans are cropping really well despite little watering from me. We ended up with just under an inch of rain earlier in the week so that’s a lot better than nothing but not as much as I’d hoped. Very cloudy yesterday and today and quite cool so at least the plants aren’t being frazzled by blazing sunshine. I have to say a second day of gloomily grey and I’m missing the sun already!

Not sure what we are up to tomorrow. I have a short meeting first thing but we haven’t any plans yet for the rest of the day. I have a long list of jobs I want to get on with in the garden but might start ticking them off at the weekend and do something nice, like a garden visit, tomorrow.

Stir fry tonight so might go and prep the veg now whilst I’m in the mood

Cooler here too @Butterfly6 and dry so back to the watering rota for the nursery and veg beds this evening. I've decided that next year we'll grow all our tomatoes outside so we'll have to do a lot of mulching to improve water retention in otherwise fertile soil.

Forgot to say earlier that I had a lovely surprise last night when I went to bring in the visitor's empty bowl. I've been putting it under a rigid tunnel cloche cos of recent rains and that's at the back of our shower room so no light. Imagine my surprise when I encounter a stiff bristle brush!

At the second attempt I realised the brush was a rather large hedgehog finishing off the bowl so I assume he/she frightened off the visitor. Not to worry as he always comes back for a second helping from our cats' bowls who're fed in the shower room cos I could shut it off when we had the dogs who also liked cat food. The last 2 nights, maybe more, he's also gone for a wander round the hall and upstairs and I think he stays for a snooze too.

Whe I've finished messing with potting on my fuchsias I shall get out the cat basket in case I can finally catch him and get him vetted.

Meanwhile, OH suggests I put out two bowls at night with labels - Hedhepig and Visitor. Don't tell my pair tho.

Don't worry @Obelix-Vendée, we're taking turns on doing an hour at a time and OH is doing the harder bits as well. The bush is planted in quite a confined space on a slope between the end of the terrace wall and a large waterbutt (which can't be moved). We gave up at 5 ish and will have another go tomorrow.

What fun to have a hedgehog visit, I'd really like one here but haven't seen one around for 18 years. I hope you're able to catch the visitor soon and get it treated at the vet's.

Our runner beans have just started to produce small beans @Butterfly6 so we're hopeful we might be able to pick some next week perhaps. The raspberries have also started producing so we can have some with icecream tonight as a pud. Broad beans are nearly over. I haven't watered the veg nearly enough.
