So sad, @Obelix-Vendée, guessed as much but have still shed a tear. A consolation that thanks to you, he didn’t go hungry for quite a while, and had a few weeks of loving care, which he obviously enjoyed.

How sad @Obelix-Vendée but I'm happy for him that he found you for the final stage of his life.

@Tui34 , I know what you meant :). OH's family before he met me. His first wife died years ago. They are a lovely family and the children, teenagers now, call me Granny. They are all fine as Dad heard the weather report in Scotland so he drove them in the campervan down to Wales.

We've done a big shop, Lidl and Leclerc, so the freezer now has food in it again.

I was so, so saddened to read your news of the Visitor @Obelix-Vendée. I think we had all guessed that it wasn't going to be a happy outcome but as others before me have said, you gave him the best last weeks of his life. He knew love, food and friendliness and you spared him a horrible and lingering demise. I too shed a tear when reading your post. Visitor had become one of our virtual family of pets and I know that there will be a hole in your heart for a while. Lots of comfort will be gained from Cosmos and Minstrel.

So sorry Obelix. I also echo what the others have said above, you did all you could to help him.

So sorry @Ergates I just realised I had forgotten to answer this question of yours. I only have the one toilet and I have a sneaky suspicion the problem is in the drains and not the toilet as it does empty - but very, very slowly so I am not actually without the essential 'facilities'. I've just given one treament and am leaving it to stand as recommended on the bottle so I'll let you know how it is progressing.

So sorry, @Obelix-Vendée. But in addition to the love and care Visitor received from you, he was also spared a painful and protracted end to his life.

Afternoon all. A much quieter day today; trees and shrubs on the island are looking pretty battered, and a couple of sheds have lost their roofs, but apart from a 6-hour power cut we suffered no ill-effects. Other parts of Scotland weren't so lucky.

Some of our "neighbours" found a good place to shelter yesterday afternoon, whilst the dwarf Highland cows grazed on regardless! This was the view from our dining table:

I'm glad you liked it, @Ladybird4. I think we must have had a visitor here at the cottage who fed the chickens - that speckled hen is very bold! There are also a dozen or so ducks, who like to sleep just outside the back door so we can't open it without disturbing them (the door opens outwards)...

So sorry to hear about Visitor @Obelix-Vendée but agree with all the sentiments expressed already that he had a much more comfortable end than he would have had otherwise thanks to you

Well, it was my turn to have some drama today. Our shower door shattered as I was trying to open it! Alarmingly, it was when I was exiting the shower so there I am with shattered glass all over the shower tray, me and the bathroom floor. Luckily I could use the handle, now in my hand, to knock some more glass out so I could reach the towel rail and use some to lay over the glass on the floor before I stepped out . Then I had a second drama of trying to pirouette to reach my glasses on the window sill, I’m blind as a bat without them. My final challenge was a battle getting out of the bathroom as the door opens inwards and some of the glass got jammed under it, so I’m having to balance, dripping wet, whilst dislodging it using the hem of a towel :help:

Anyway, having finally escaped the bathroom and dried myself off, I calmed down with a cup of tea before venturing back into the bathroom to clear it all up.

OH was quite shocked when he got home and I told him of my adventures. Luckily no real injuries, only a few small glass splinters in my feet which were easily removed. I suspect the larger injury will be to our bank balance. The shower was here when we moved in so not sure we will be able to simply replace the door

Thanks again everyone. Minstrel and Cosmos are very pleased to have their catflap back and the hedgepig is still coming for dinner every night, unless it's another cat of course......

Love your photo @Liriodendron. Nice chooks too. I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay with no more bad weather.

We all enjoyed the Sewing Bee tonight and thought the Korean guest judge was great - constructive comments, informative and kind too. Some really good sewing tonight and some really good inventive made to measure but some horrors too. The right one went.

Just seen your post @Butterfly6. Glad you have no serious injury except, maybe, to your bank balance. Insurance??

Possum managed to break a tiny piece that suspended the sliding door on our upstairs shower when she was cleaning it one day and it was impossible to replace or mend. Ended up having to install a complete new shower. Not cheap.

Good morning all. Oh my @Butterfly6, what a shock for you and thank goodness you managed to escape with minor damage. My shower door is made of polycarbonate or something similar so hopefully wouldn't shatter as yours has done.
@Obelix-Vendée, I agree about Sewing Bee last night and I thought that designer, who I have to confess I have never heard of, was lovely with all of the competitors. He found something positive to say to them all and I agree about the right person being eliminated.

                                Good morning all.

Oh what a horrible shock, @Butterfly6! Thank goodness you weren't hurt. I hope it won't be too expensive.

I will watch Sewing Bee when I do the ironing, but I record it on Sundays. We watched Spectre last night. It's long so we haven't finished watching it yet.

We are going to lunch today in a newish Indian restaurant in a village about 25 mins away. People we know recommended it.

It will be hot again and no rain is forecast for the next 2 weeks. I hope there won't be water restrictions. The garden could do with a good downpour.
