Thank goodness for that, @Ladybird4. It's horrid having a blocked loo. Our upstairs one is waiting for a builder to look at the pipe, which I think is cracked.

Good to hear from you @floralies but what a shock to have your house struck by lightening. I hope the insurance pays to have it all repaired. Have you got electricity now?

We had a delicious meal out in the new Indian restaurant. The waiter spoke English. I had chicken korma, really nice with ground almonds and coconut in the sauce.

@floralies, that is a long time to have to wait for your insurance! Did you have the work done and then put in your claim? My insurance covers Home Emergencies and after you contact them they get their own contractors to come out to do necessary repairs.
      Yum yum @Busy-Lizzie!
I am signing out for this evening. The angst of the last few days has left me feeling tired and hopefully I might get a better sleep. See you all in the morning.

We had various electrical appliances that were knocked out by the strike in different parts of the house, heated towel rail, mirror with light and japonese loo all in same room next to the outside wall that was split, a radiator in a bedroom, tv downstairs, OH's computer. All the quotes had to go to the insurance company to be scrutinized before payment.
Update on the bird, there was no bird, I think OH was hearing things!!

That's what insurance is like in France. When a pipe disconnected from a tap in an upstairs bathroom in the night at my old house it flooded the room below and the landing and bedroom next door, both carpeted, I had to deal with clearing up the mess, taking photos of everything, getting quotes from cleaners and decorators and sending it all to the insurers before they paid anything. Then I had to arrange for the work to be done when the money came in.

A very good morning to you all. Thanks for the explanations @floralies and @Busy-Lizzie. Yesterday was a bit of a novelty as I've never had to claim for such an incident before so I was surprised (and pleased) with the rapid response.
Lots of my trees are looking very autumnal - the Katsura is almost completely defoliated - it does not like the hot, dry weather - with their leaves taking on their autumn colours. Forecast here is showing a 70% chance of light rain. I wouldn't mind 'heavy' Tap Controller! What ever you have planned for today, I hope that you achieve it but have a good one anyway.

              Mizzling at the moment.
              Physio. at lunch time.
Depending on how I feel afterwards, I might take the car for a trip to somewhere for a hot chocolate. I must keep the battery charged.

We on the croquet committee are having an ongoing discussion regarding having one of our mowers serviced. It needs a blade sharpening etc. Our problem is 1. finding someone who services commercial equipment. 2. How much to pay for the wo .
We have had 2 quotes so far, £800.00 and £300.00. No one on the committee knows what they are talking about regarding maintaining machinery which doesn't help.
We used to have a wonderful electrical engineer member who looked after the equipment but he is no longer with us and is sorely missed.

I hope everyone is still in one piece. Well done finding a workable solution to the exploding shower door. It would give me the heebie jeebies using it again.
Good to hear the blocked loo problem was so easily solved. It could have been much worse.

Morning all, glad the shower and loo problems seem to be resolved, what a palavver though.
It's good your insurance company stepped up to the mark so quickly @Ladybird4, we are hoping the Council's insurers will do the same for us. Our claim for the damaged retaining wall has been submitted to them so fingers crossed.

Our builders are doing sterling work and the first half of the wall has now been rebuilt and the paving on one half of the terrace was relaid and mortared yesterday. The new steps are partially done and then they'll start on the second taller other half of the front wall. I've just been texted to say they've been called out to an emergency so will be late today but that's no problem.

I was hoping to get a big pile of prunings shredded today but we are forecast light rain soon so I'm just hanging on to see. OH has taken the car in for its annual service and MOT then walked home.

Like the shower room @Obelix-Vendée - quirky! Being so short, I'd have no trouble in there!

Weekly shop this morning with Possum in tow as she's on hols till the 24th. No plans to go away as she has studying to do for her course work and a chest of drwaers to prime and paint.

Far too hot to garden this pm and for th enext few days so we'll carry on weeding in the ams and I'll sew in the pms. The trial pair of OH's trousers seem OK so I'll have to get on with the linen version and I have a new frock cut out for me.

Good result for your blocked loo @Ladybird4.

Glad your building work is progressing well @lizzie27. That green bathroom is odd - long and thin which is fine but I'd have done it differently. As it is we've already moved the basin nearer the shower and changed its tap as it was opposite the roof beam so when I leant forward to rinse my face I banged my forehead on the tap and when I stood up I'd bang my head on the beam.

The toilet is between the bath and the shower cubicle. I'd have put the loo at the window end and a bath with shower along the wall between it and the basin as it would have been cheaper and more spacious.

@Busy-Lizzie Belgian insurers can be the same but, fortunately for us, when we had major problems with our Belgian house because of the council not maintaining the road propermy, our insurance agent took them and our insurers on and we had a satisfactory result but it was still a long drawn out process.

No rain in sight here and rising temps into next week. Won't be sowing or planting any autumn and winter veg for a while then. I hope that changes and we all get some decent rain soon.
@Goldenlily26 we have a domestic sit-on mower and the annual service for the motor and blade sharpening costs about as much as a car service.

We had a lot of rain in the night (Not unusual for the top of a Welsh hill) but it's now bright and breezy.
Quiet day for us, after all the recent stresses.
Tea and cake have been mentioned. A local village community shop makes excellent Eccles!
                    Happy birthday @redstar

It sounds like, you would have needed a crash helmet if you hadn’t changed the layout @Obelix-Vendée . I would love to redo our bathroom, there are no major issues it’s just irritating. It’s a small square room with just the shower cubicle, loo and basin. The square shower cubicle is quite a generous size which I like but would be better if it had a chamfered corner rather than a right angle. It’s in one corner with the basin next to it. The loo is at right angles to the basin and is quite a chunky design and positioned about 15cm too close to the basin. Consequently it looks/feels like a squeeze to go between the shower corner and loo to get to the basin. It isn’t actually a squeeze but it all makes the bathroom look more cramped than it needs too.

Pending the lottery it will all have to stay as it is..

Good afternoon all, from the top of a hill! The mobile signal has suffered following the storm, and I've had to get high up to read the last 2 days' contributions here. Glad to hear your loo problems are sorted, @Ladybird4 ...

Good evening all. I had a very rainy morning today so I opted to do some knitting rather than being outside. I didn't go to Bestie's today. Tomorrow is another Canasta day so fingers crossed its dry. I've got all the cakes baked for Sunday's tea/coffee morning so that is one less job to think about for tomorrow. There is nothing I wish to watch on TV tonight so I will do some reading instead. Enjoy whatever you have planned for tonight.

Nothing for us on TV either @Ladybird4 but we have Human recorded and have started watching that. Both felines have had a jolly good scragging with the brushes as they do like to roll in dry dust out on the drive. Lots of purring.

That is such a lovely view @Liriodendron, thank you.

I didn't get around to saying hello this morning as I wanted to do some gardening before it got too hot. Then we went to Périgueux as there were things OH wanted that he couldn't get here, including solar security lights for outside. We have a couple but he wanted more and they are very useful for us if we've been out and come back in the dark in winter. He wanted to see them, not order them online. He bought himself 3 new T shirts as well. We also went to the huge hypermarket and I found my face cream and favourite brands of toothpaste and mouthwash that our local SM has been out of since we got back. They had mangetout peas as well and much nicer bread rolls than our local.

I made an apple and plum pie which should do us for three days. There were dark red plums on the tree in the veg garden area. I made paella for dinner as big shell on prawns were on special offer and I put a big tomato from the garden in it.
