    8pm TONIGHT (Thursday)

" Gardeners’ World has exclusive access to a brand new flower show at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire.

Excitement for the inaugural show is in the air as Joe Swift and Arit Anderson are joined by Frances Tophill, Adam Frost and Jamie Butterworth to bring the very best from the show gardens and floral marquee. There are some surprises too within the historic house, including some prize-winning vegetables!

A passionate grower and his family exhibit their home-grown plants for the very first time - their nursery is just down the road, so they couldn’t be more local. And a plantsman from Blackpool shares an exciting new spin on hanging baskets and containers.

Plus a look at the culture and proud history of Wentworth to explore how gardening and mining are so closely linked."

      8pm tonight.

" Monty is checking how the garden is coping with the dry summer, and in the veg garden, this means making choices on which plants to water and which to leave. There are also broad beans and potatoes to harvest, and he takes philadelphus cuttings.

Arit meets a gardener in Kent who has a deep connection with nature and whose beautiful garden is full of wildflowers, romance and butterflies.

Jamie Butterworth is at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, installing Monty’s Chelsea Dog Garden to its forever home, and with the help of a two of its canine residents, finding out why it will be so important for the dogs there.

There’s a couple in Cambridge whose garden’s centrepiece is a stunning 18th-century windmill. Plus a grower who is exuberant about her huge collection of echeveria."

Yes I noted the same conditions when I dug my Charlotte spuds, and have the same trouble with broad beans. I disagree about overwatering being the reason for BER there, I think it's the extreme heat, less water would be worse.
On the subject of watering I'm surprised he made a virtue of not watering borders when plants are dying, if he doesn't want to use mains water, then I'm sure he could afford a larger rain water storage solution.

@Allotment Boy he makes a virtue of many things we ordinary gardeners find unfathomable.

            8pm tonight.

" After the intense heat of high summer, Adam Frost is cooling off in his garden with the addition of a recycled water feature for wildlife. His collection of cacti need potting on, and in the ornamental kitchen garden his stepover apples could do with a haircut.

Sue Kent travels to Anglesey to see a fabulous oasis designed around a beautiful mill pool. And in Bath, Frances Tophill visits a terraced garden bursting with unusual plants.

There’s a champion rose grower who is always striving for more floral glories. Plus a remarkable group of gardeners in Derby who are doing great things for the community. "

Sorry @LunarSea , I have to disagree .

Don't get me wrong, I like Monty, but there's something about Adam's presenting style that just makes me smile. I did think he looked tired though. I know he hasn't always enjoyed the best of health, he suffers from Fibromyalgia (sp ?)

I enjoyed last night's programme, the rose grower chap was something else. He made no secret of his desire to win, and the planting at the garden Sue Kent visited was very much to my taste.

The best was the beginning: “we got rain”.

I definitely empathised with that comment @simone_in_wiltshire .
I knew just how he felt .
We had some torrential rain earlier this week, I could practically hear the garden lapping it up. I was sniffing the air like a Bisto kid.

I was at work in the office, only 2 miles from my home. Watched the rain with delight then came home to find barely a trace of it. Nothing collected in all the containers I had out. We must have had a bit though because the front grass is starting to look green from a distance.

Yes, the back lawn is beginning to green up here @Escarpment .
The front, well that's a different matter. It's in full sun from first thing until around 3pm at this time of year, and is absolutely baked. It's going to need a LOT of rain.

@AnniD and @Escarpment I wonder how they can always mention the warmest month and dried spring, but that we have no rain for 5 months doesn’t seem to bother the weather people. I heard on telly that we got the hosepipe ban because of the warm weather :wallbanging:

                          8pm tonight.

" Monty is summer-pruning his trained fruit, sowing some hardy annuals for cutting next year and planning ahead for winter in the veg garden. In his wildlife garden, he has come to a difficult decision.

Four years after its official opening, Jamie Butterworth visits RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford to discover how it has been developing. And at home in the Peak District, Rekha Mistry shares her expertise on how to become more self-sufficient with a tasty array of home-grown produce.

There is also a poignant celebration of the work a couple has done restoring a garden surrounding a historic windmill near Cambridge."
