Thank you all for your thoughts, everyone. Now, perhaps we can move forward.

My daughter and I went on a hunt to find the pop-up butcher. I was very relieved I was not driving! Single track, Cornish lanes with multiple blind corners and a nightmare, tight turn to get into the farmyard when we eventually found the location. The sign said 1.2 miles from the main road, but it seemed like 5 miles; we even drove past it before turning and spotting the entrance. A delightful young woman with an interesting selection of preserves, pickles, and chutneys, alongside her range of beef, I bought a piece of skirt to make some pasties, pork, and lamb, including hogget. They run their business mainly online, but I think we may well use them again.
On the way home we stopped off at the Water Gardens where we shared a savoury cream tea. A cheese scone served with cream cheese, chutney, and a cup of tea in amazingly quiet surroundings. Very enjoyable.

I spent the rest of the day relaxing while my daughter went home to garden.

Hello all! I've finally found a signal in the garden. Only one bar, but better than nothing.
We're off tomorrow, starting our homeward journey. Tomorrow night in Stranraer, ferry on Sunday to Belfast, then a long drive home. Don't want to leave... this is the view, just now, from just beyond the garden. 20250808_193309.jpg

Very sorry to hear of your ex's passing @Goldenlily26. The pop up butcher sounds most interesting - despite its position down titchy lanes. I must admit I am not fond of narrow little country lanes and I find myself breathing in to try and make my car thinner! I know, I know - total twonk! Gorgeous picture yet again @Liriodendron. It reminds me very much of Scalpsie Bay on the Isle of Bute.

Beautiful @Liriodendron. Not surprised you'd like to stay.

I've been on watering duties again as everything is so parched in the veg plot and I don't want to lose the crops I have or the treasures in my new bed.

Monty is waxing lyrical about his grass borders but it just looks messy to me. Need to talk to OH about a fancy composting system. Love the windmill garden couple.

Signing out for this evening - watching Monty hump hydrangeas around has made me feel quite tired! There was a 'For Sale' sign up at Jack, my ex cat sitter's bungalow today which made me feel rather sad as I was on my way to Canasta. I am signing out for this evening. See you all in the morning.

Me too @Ladybird4. I had a few of the bell shaped ones in Belgium but haven't found any here. Clematis envy. OH was down putting the chooks to bed so i've just shown him the 6 week compost system. He is bemused. I've put it in my subconcious to ponder and come up with a how to.

Hello all. Had a reasonable sleep last night so feel ready for whatever today throws at me. Its definitely a garden oriented day methinks. Pressie from Cricket this morning - only discovered when I stood on it! Deep joy!

Oh Cricket. You do love your Mum. Cold, slippery squish under warm toes. Luverly! Poppy used to bring her pressies home alive, play with them until she was bored, eat them, leaving me the best bits, head, tail, and bile duct.
It is good to know you are loved.

The only exercise the physio gave me was to flex my foot upwards when lying in bed or sitting in a chair, possibly because I had mentioned that I had been doing yoga stretch exercises for the last few weeks, which seemed to have helped.

Liriodendron, what a lovely place to stay. No wonder you didn't want to leave. Safe journey home.

The Boardmasters weekend is winding up to the Finale tonight with local bands etc. playing for most of the day, plus the surfing competitions. The headland above the bay looks like a campaign site with the tents etc. packed in cheek by jowl. At least the sun is out early for them today.
Congratulations Redstar with your car, just reward for what I am sure have been many hours of TLC.

I haven't decided what to do today, soooooooo many jobs to choose from.

Morning all, I know that feeling @Goldenlily26, haven't decided yet what to do first with the many garden tasks on my list. It's good to know that your painful leg is at last being taken seriously. Good luck with the MRI scan.

@redstar, that is a beautiful car of which you can be justly proud. Congratulations on winning the trophy.

Have a good journey home @Liriodendron, such a beautiful place to have stayed, even in a storm.

It's quite windy outside so might have to put the apple tree pruning on hold for a bit. Undecided as to whether to dig up a favourite rose 'Blue for You' which might be in the way of the builders next week, or just reduce the height and ask them to work around it.

We've had an atrocious letter designed to frighten and intimidate us from the Council's insurers demanding a tree survey, soil survey, drain survey, root samples, several pit excavations, etc etc. Totally over the top for a modest claim of £2K for a small cracked wall within touching distance of the birch tree. Not sure what to do now.

Hot and sunny here and set to get to 35C so I won't be attempting any gardening this pm. We've been out for a stroll round the annual brocante in Moutiers - central streets and squares closed so householders and professionals can set up stall with everything from attic contents to proper old tat. I'm always on the lookout for things I can use in the garden but no joy. Did find a new (old) glass lampshade for my old lamp. Possum came so we started off with a drink and a pain au chocolat for her and watched the parade of vintage tractors and seat trailers go by from the terrace. 2 of them are neighbours.

It was the fête du lac in the village last night @Ladybird4 - loud live music we can hear at 5kms away and then fireworks to end it all. I was putting out the hedgehog food when they started and left Cosmos trembling and then swearing when I picked him up to take him indoors. No sign of Minstrel but it seems she's OK as OH found an organ when he got up. She always leaves an organ and sometimes a tail.

@lizzie I think you should explain to the Council that the tone of their letter is clearly designed to be intimidating rather than helpful to their rate paying population and that you find it offensive as you are not at fault. Ask them to be more conciliatory or be reported to your MP and any ombudsman that can help.

Keep doing the stretches @Goldenlily and good luck with your list of jobs. Someone once told making a list was half the battle to getting things done but I found it just the opposite so now I keep a mental list and do jobs as the mood, or need, takes me. One of them is sorting out our cave and making it swallow proof. Don't want to stop them nesting but this year 2 extra nests mean even more mess so the shelving contents need sorting and re-organising and then protecting.

Afternoon all. It’s sunny but windy here. Washing dried super quickly. I’m just doing some garden jobs and might read my new book: “Free Ride”. It’s an autobiographical travel adventures book by a fantastic woman who makes solo motorbike tours across the world. Her YouTube channel is called “Itchy Boots”, which I really enjoy.

I hope everyone is behaving and feeling in a weekend mood.

Would a chat with Citizens Advice or a trip to your local MP’s next surgery be worthwhile, @lizzie27? If only to have a rant! That really does sound very intimidatory. Maybe they need to fund all this information themselves in order to defend a claim?
What a fun day, @Obelix-Vendée! I’d love to attend something like that!
We had a very nice day. Relaxed breakfast at home, then cut OH’s hair. Looks very neat and tidy. Then we went for a walk at the Donkeys, OH’s problem knee was a lot better today and we managed 8000 ( rather slow) steps round the fields, hardly saw a soul. Despite the full car park, and the hoards of families milling around the welcome centre, we popped into the restaurant and found several tables free, and a minimal queue to order food. So we had an impromptu lunch, picked up a bag of shopping at the supermarket, then home for a nap! Had a chocolate eclair with my tea. I feel as if I’ve had a weekend away!
