Good afternoon all. Wherever you are @Penny_Forthem it looks stunning and happy birthday wishes to your Hub. It has been another steamy one here but I did take advantage of the weather to wash some more of my coats. It suddenly smacked me in the face - why have I got so many coats? To be honest, I do wear them all but I do feel as if I could manage with less.
I am having my hair done tomorrow as well @lizzie27.

      I hope you haven’t got 32 coats @Ladybird4 , that’s the number we found when clearing my Mum’s house:roflol:

It was certainly pretty warm last night. We treated ourselves to a rather expensive fan some years ago ( rhymes with bison!) and have certainly had our moneys worth from it, as it is pretty efficient, and importantly, very quiet. On our recent trip away, there was a very good fan on a floor stand, very effective during the heatwave, and in lieu of air conditioning as it was a listed building. I meant to make a note of the make, as there wasn’t an obvious logo, but forgot. It was also very quiet, and we were able to run it all night.
Happy birthday to your OH, @Penny_Forthem, that looks like a beautiful place.
Of course you don’t need many coats, @Ladybird4, but if you have them, and wear them, just enjoy them! I seem to have a collection myself, but that’s because I hate throwing things out. I tend to buy something new to replace something old, but the old item is generally no longer suitable for the charity shop. I then tend to keep it ‘for gardening’ but still find myself going out in it!
Strange weather here today. I thought the sky looked a bit overcast, but OH assured me that there was only a 5% chance of rain, and that the sun would be out by 9am. So we headed up to the Donkeys, and there was light drizzle all the way! When we set off on our walk at 10.15, it was dry but no sign of the sun. I took our rain macs in my backpack, which at least guaranteed that it stayed dry! Sun didn’t appear until after 2pm. As it happens, I was a lot more comfortable without the sun.
Did some housework after lunch, bed changed and washing machine on, and added to my shopping list for the garden centre. Second day in a row that we’ve had run out of energy for that, but I’m insisting we go in the morning.

@Bluejayway I can definitely say - with a feeling of some relief - that I do not believe I have as many as that but it has made me want to do a quick coat count when I go upstairs.
@Ergates, the fan I have that I recommended to @Busy-Lizzie is a Meaco and it is silent. I have it on all night in my bedroom. I have just been checking out the listings for TV tonight and the selection is completely underwhelming so I am going to say good night now and I'll go and read. Have good evenings and I'll see you tomorrow.

I have fewer coats after a clear out last autumn - 1 traditional trench coat, 1 modernised and with a hood but both only knee length, 1 longer warm-lined winter coat which is now too big for me but I still like it and 1 I made in 1990 from a Donna Karan pattern. I re-lined it a couple of years ago and still love it. I also have outdoor jackets for walkies and gardening - all tucked away in their cupboard in this heat. I shall have to make a proper new coat to replace the one that's too big and Possum has 2 "on order" from me.

Agree @Ladybird4 that there are thin pickings on TV tonight but I do like Digging for Britain and that Scots chap who follows rivers and their history and who's on a bit earlier.

Still relatively cool here so should sleep well tonight. The rain didn't last long so I still need to do watering. Scorchio starts again tomorrow with 30C heading up to 39 again at the weekend.

Wishing you all a pleasant evening and a good sleep.

Good morning all. Another toasty night but it looks quite stormy outside. As I said yesterday its hair do day and a chance to catch up with my Bestie's gossip. See you all later. Have wonderful days.

                Good morning all,

It’s going to be another warm day but not quite as hot as yesterday according to the forecast. At the moment there’s a lovely cool breeze coming through the open window n the shady side of the house, so I’ll make the most of that whilst I can.

I slept better last night despite the humidity, but a combination of the window open with netting in front to keep the beasties out, and the fan running, helped to keep the room a bit cooler.

What a beautiful view from your patio @Penny_Forthem. Enjoy your mini break, wherever it is.

I’ve got my Pilates class soon and then a relatively lazy day planned, I think.

                  Good morning all.

It's not so hot this morning but 36C is forecast for this afternoon. I opened all the windows to let some cool air in earlier, shut them now.

I cleaned the sitting room yesterday. Do I really feel up to cleaning today? Too hot to garden. No need for shopping. The study curtains are finished. I don't knit. Finished my book, must look for another in the bag from the charity shop.

I don't think the no watering rule between 8am and 8pm is working. When I watered before I did it between 6 and 7pm or between 8 and 9am, holding the hose pipe in my hand and watering at the base of the plants. At 7 pm I cook and we start dinner between 7.30pm and 8pm. OH likes to linger over dinner, we have it on the shady terrace with the fan on. By the time I start watering it's between 8.30 and 9pm which is when the mozzies come out and we want to go indoors to watch TV, so I put 2 sprinklers on instead. We have good pressure here so the tap has a double connector. They are not as efficient and I then forget to turn them off when I meant to as we are watching TV. I'm sure I use more water now than I did before the restrictions. Also it's getting dark so I need a torch to turn off the tap. I find it hard to wake up and get up to have time to finish watering by 8am.

I fought with the hose, had to dismantle, untangle, straighten it out, and drag it down the garden. Unbelievably tiring! Just in case "man" comes to do the strimming. I do not want him to catch his foot and fall over.
Eventually, I summoned the energy to drive to the village shop to draw some cash to pay said "man". I was seduced by some cakes, when I tried one later it was not nice so the rest are being donated to my neighbour's chickens.
I have almost finished the patchwork pot holder I am making for my daughter, just my initials and the date to embroider. I woz here sort of thing.
My aim today is to tie in the sweetpeas, again, and check for any more ripe tomatoes.

A surreal morning, my ex's cremation was at 8.00 am. I feel for the kids.

I am going to check out some builders to do my steps.

The heat wave seems to have missed us, overcast, warm and breezy. Quite pleasant, rather hot at lunch time. The worst of the heat is North of us.

                    A lovely view Penny. Enjoy.
Life seems to be calming down for everyone at last, despite the heat some of you are coping with. Make the most of it, soon be Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

                      Overcast and cool.
We'd asked for 2 single duvets, which duly appeared. However, they must be a tog suitable for Everest expeditions, so we took them out and slept under the covers. Of course, I was then too cold. There seems to be no easy solution.
A lovely full English this morning, which I couldn't finish.
Not rushing out, but will have a gentle amble later. Both just enjoying watching the swans and swimmers. The gardens are a horticulturist's delight, immaculately tended.

Morning all, overcast here and cooler with a bit of a breeze. That's good because I've got to walk to the bus stop to get into town for a haircut. Might treat myself to my usual coffee and sticky bun in M & S when I get there. I've hitched a lift from my cleaners to get half way down to the bus stop - our nearest, which isn't that near, is temporarily closed because of roadworks.

Gosh, that sounds like hard work @Goldenlily26, don't know whether you wish the 'man' will come or not. Hope you find a good builder at a reasonable price to do your steps. Ours haven't turned up yet, not sure why.

                        Have a good day everyone.

Hotter today but bearable. Feeling weary tho as my sleep was disturbed by a cow which bellowed most of the night. Windows open to benefit from cooler air. No-one at home since the farmer retired and the tenants who rent his fields and one cow byre live away so no-one to see why it was shouting.

Weekly shop today with Possum as OH is golfing today and tomorrow is a public holiday. All sorts of holidaymakers about who forget how to drive trolleys when away from home......... we always start witha coffee while we check our menu for the week and shopping needed. Possum had a pain au chocolat. Not for me.

Before we left I nipped out and watered the treasures I planted yesterday but with a can. I do all my usual watering in the evening @Busy-Lizzie, mostly seephoses in the veg plot but sometimes a sprinkler and I set the oven timer to remind me to change or turn off. The pots along the house get done by hand but with a hosepipe as the butts are empty now and two big beds near the house get a weekly soak with the sprinkler and timer. We have dinner at 8ish which marks the start of the watering cycle.

Well done sorting out your hosepipe @Goldenlily26. I have several in different lengths and widths and tend to leave the main ones out all year from March to November but the two I have at front and back of the house go on reels so are easy to manage. Kinking pipes are a PITA.

Enjoy all your pottering and hairdos and whatever else you're all doing.

Thank you for the link @Penny_Forthem. The hotel looks lovely and the menu looks good. Does the hotel provide blankets? Once I asked for a large bath towel and I put that over the sheet.

                            Having yet another quiet day.

Love the look of that hotel, @Penny_Forthem. We had many family holidays at Barmouth when I was a child, amd I love the area. Having seen that it is very near the Mach Loop, I might be able to tempt OH with a visit sometime! Did I imagine hearing an old folk saying, that if you fell asleep beneath Cader Idris, you would wake up either a poet or a fool?
Finally got my trip to the garden centre. Just as well I had OH with me, as they had a load of sales on in the clothing departments. I’m sure I’d have come home with something!
Instead, I have bought a wrought iron style hay trough to hang on the wall beside the French windows, two lightweight pots for outside the front door and some compost. OH was tempted by some pretty cyclamen on a multi buy offer, so we have four of those to find a home for. Also got some bird food. Swung past Sainsbury’s on the way there, and grabbed a litre of Pimm’s for under £14 with my loyalty card, woohoo!
Straight out to the garden when we got home, and shredded the big pile of brambles. I’m now going to have a restful afternoon, planning to read but will probably doze off. Very warm here, but overcast, and there was a tiny bit of drizzle earlier. Not enough to even wet anything.
