@Ergates I too spent a lot of time in Barmouth with my rellies. Happy days.
You would have gone on the Fairbourne railway.
We relived our childhoods and went today

Yes the Mach loop is nearby.
Home tomorrow, collecting pooches on the way.

      Wow! What a difference!
I Facebooked builders in my area, filled in the necessary and within an hour had a reply from one man. He came round within the half hour, went home, he lives really close, and sent me a quote which I have accepted. He has a registered business, sent me his bank details so I could make a part payment for materials being delivered tomorrow or Sat. Work is going to be done on Sunday so I have moved my car and sundry other detritus so they have room to move.
I now sit back and wait. Is it going to happen or have I been scammed? I shall find out soon!

Good evening all. I hope you are as happy with your hair 'do' as I am with mine @lizzie27! Oh my goodness but what an absolutely wonderful looking place @Penny_Forthem. Have you and Hub been out in a kayak yet? Photographic proof required of course! Before I left this morning my black (general waste) bin had been emptied but not my green bin. It had been emptied by the time I got home and, as usual, was positioned so that I couldn't drive directly onto my drive! Tomorrow I might be able to get the hedge trimming finished.
I like the sound of your wrought iron style hay trough @Ergates. I have one but annoyingly I have huge difficulties trying to find coir liners to fit it. The blue and great tits demolished its original liner one nesting season. That's why I started getting alpaca fleece to divert their attentions.
I do hope that your children will soon find peace after today's sadness @Goldenlily26.

I am signing out for this evening - hoping for a better night's sleep. It looks lovely outside but I am pooped and will be retiring to read quite soon. I hope the evening is kind to you. See you all around tomorrow.

Glorious picture to wake up to @Penny_Forthem - thank you for sharing though I do have to confess that topiary (along with Bonsai) are not to my taste.

No sign of Cricket this morning so I hope nothing untoward has happened. He does occasionally have a little adventure but I wish he wouldn't. It looks as though it is going to be another scorching day today but I'll try and get the hedge sorted.

Cricket has just returned and headed straight for his food dish. The sun is just beginning to show itself and it seems to be steamy already. I think I need another cuppa.

I have just been watching the bagpipers from The Cenotaph, Edinburgh Castle, The National Arboretum and HMS Prince of Wales all playing 'The Battle's O'er' to start the celebrations to commemorate VJ Day. It was very moving.

I have visited the National Arboretum a few times now and it is such a wonderful place yet very sobering, which I highly recommend to anyone who gets the chance to go.

I haven't heard from strimmer man. Not really surprised. He could possibly turn up without warning, but I doubt it.
The forecast for today is hot, so I have made an early start, sweeping the conservatory, which was full of cobwebs and spiders, etc. Then I am going to make a start on tying in the sweet peas, as gales are forecast later in the week. Just in time to blow most of the apples from the tree before they are ripe.
What a lovely place to stay, Penny, enjoy.
Isn't it worrying, Ladybird, when our felines go off on an adventure? When Poppy was a kitten cat she disappeared for 4 days, came home reeking of perfume/hand cream. I never did find out where she had been. I had convinced myself she was lying dead in a hedge somewhere.
Yes, Ladybird, time to begin moving on. Unfortunately, there seem to be so many loose ends of paperwork, legality, etc., to deal with after a death. My daughter had to go to Truro yesterday to deal with some items connected to her father. There has been some delay in them being issued with the death certificate because he had been moved from hospital to a nursing home so close to his death. He had not been seen by the Dr. connected to the nursing home but had been seen by the hospital Dr, outside the designated time period required. The Palliative Care Team assured my daughter they were dealing with it but it is still hassle. You need a death certificate to do anything. Probate can be a minefield as can selling a house these days, nothing seems straightforward. My daughter tries to be philosophical and take it as it comes but I can see she is stressed and just wants it all to be over and done with.

Enjoy your days everyone, looks like it is going to be a hot one!

Morning everybody, hot and still here already so I'm not looking forward to the funeral later, although the crematorium might have air conditioning perhaps - in which case I'll freeze.

OH will be going off first in his old Austin 10 as he can only do a max of 40mph, more likely 30mph. You have to double the usual time it takes to get anywhere so very tedious sometimes.
He will be part of the cavalcade of old Austins behind the hearse so I'm taking my modern in case anybody needs a lift.

If I have time afterwards I want to pop over to a bespoke jewellers in a neighbouring town to look at earrings for a 50th birthday present for my lovely DIL. The birthstone for August is apparently a Peridot (yellowy-green semi-precious stone) and they had some in stock when I phoned yesterday. Most of the jewellery is made on the premises, it's a treasure trove of beautiful things.

@Goldenlily26, unfortunately obtaining Probate and sorting out admin these days is likely to take 3 months or more so your daughter will need a lot of patience I'm afraid.

I’ve had several friends frustrated at the delays in obtaining death certificates, even in circumstances that one would imagine should be straightforward, as in having been transferred to a hospice from hospital. Just adds to the stress and unhappiness. My condolences to you and your family, @Goldenlily26.
Glad Cricket arrived home ok, @Ladybird4, it is a huge worry. One of our cats disappeared for two days, very out of character. We went round to all the neighbours searching, and one of the neighbours in the adjoining road told us that he was sleeping in his usual spot on top of their compost bin. There he was, but when we picked him up, it was evident that he had broken his leg. Emergency dash to the vet, where he had surgery with a pin, and made a full recovery.
Hope the funeral goes ok, @lizzie27, the cars will be a poignant sight. Where is the town with the jewellers?
Planning a day at home, it’s already heating up, and we have been out a lot this week.
