    Good morning all.

Thank goodness you got to the funeral anyway @lizzie27, could have been worse if the traffic had been even worse. The earrings sound lovely.

It will be another hot day today, 39 forecast for late afternoon, then thunderstorms should arrive on Monday for 3 days with much cooler temperatures. I hope they bring lots of lovely rain, not hail like they did in 2022 which destroyed people's rooves. I hope the rain happens, last time it was forecast nothing happened.

I was up early to water some flowerbeds before the restriction cut off time of 8am. Then I went back to bed to join OH with a mug of coffee.

      Good morning all,

Quite overcast here at the moment and still feels muggy indoors, but the thermometer reads 19 degrees, so cooler so far than yesterday.

The man coming to do your steps sounds very efficient @Goldenlily26. Perhaps he might know of someone reliable who could do your strimming? How mean spirited of your neighbours partner to insist her sons stay outside over night - I’m sure a couple of days slight upheaval wouldn’t have made too much of a problem. I think I’d have been standing up to him over that.

The ear rings sound very pretty @lizzie27. I’m sure your DIL will love them. Peridot is a pretty coloured stone, isn’t it? Such a delicate shade of green. It was my Mums birth stone.

Never mind, @lizzie27, these things happen, and I’m sure your friend would have just laughed and commiserated with you about the traffic! He would probably have had a chuckle at the exhaust coming loose too, and been impressed at the timing, at least it wasn’t on the way there!
We have a small patio table and chairs in the same design as the new set, have had them for quite a few years and they still look like new. Unlike the very cheap table and chairs currently on the lawn, some sort of metal that has pitted badly, they’ll be going off to the tip!
The earrings sound lovely. I was wondering if that was the same jewellers that made my daughter in law’s engagement ring, but I think that was in Lacock.
Fantastic that you have progress on your garden works, @Goldenlily26 ! Did the Strimmer man ever turn up? I wonder if the new man can recommend someone he knows to do the work for you? We had a fantastic man who came to put up fencing for us, very thorough and did a great job. I mentioned my battle with the rogue rhododendrons at the top of the garden, and he offered to come back with a ‘lad’, and spent the day digging out 16 rhododendrons, complete with roots. Charged £180 for the whole day, for the two of them, did a great job. He also came back and spent a couple of days sitting on top of our bungalow roof, repointing the ridge tiles and blocking off the top of a redundant chimney to stop the jackdaws trying to nest in it. Sadly ( for us) he went off to volunteer in the hospital during Covid, and is now training to be a paramedic. I’m sure he will be fantastic.
Out for breakfast and a walk, supposedly before it gets too hot, but it already is. There is a sea breeze though, and we will stick to the shady paths under the trees.
Hope all have a good day. I woke up this morning thinking it was Sunday, and I’m still struggling to remember that it’s not!

          Morning from a cloudy Wales.
          I slept well last night!
We have some jobs that need doing on the van (a new reading light over where I sit, being one) so we thought we'd go up there today, but after yesterday's travels, we've decided on a home day, though will have to go shopping at some point.
At the last minute, Hub's sister had to cancel, as BiL's back had gone into spasm. As we haven't seen them since February, it was a shame, but it did make our stay a little more relaxed. She does want to micro manage us!
The food was excellent - I opted for the butternut, mushroom and lentil wellington on the second night. Really good.
Meant to say that hub's meds are working well and he's got his appetite and joie de vivre back
Your new workmen sound like 'keepers' @Goldenlily26
I love peridot. Such a subtle colour.
Whatever you have planned (or not!) enjoy it.

Hello all, it's like a sauna here, temps of 40c today, i do so hope the predicted lower temperatures and rain arrive next week, this is really getting to me now!!
The tomatoes are very slow to ripen, peppers and aubergines are at a standstill. Sorry about the moan.
Have a good weekend everyone

              Good afternoontoyouall!

Yes @floralies we are at 39°C and it's as hot as billyo outside which is precisely why Fizz and I are inside with the aircon on at 26°C.

Fizz wanted to go outside so I let her go - she's quite happy to lie in the shade and pant. After 20 minutes, I made her come back inside. Wouldn't like her to melt!!

Temperatures are set to stabilise from about Wednesday onwards - to a cool 28°C and there is a picture of a cloud with lightning and rain for Tuesday on my iPad. Here's hoping as I wish to plant my winter plants.

Good afternoon everyone, cloud and much cooler here today thank goodness. Yesterday afternoon was a real sizzler. We've been naughty again, went to the Garden club Enfield. They do a real 50% off sale, it was heaving as expected but we were lucky, Mrs AB spotted a car laden with plants leaving an area of the overflow car park thats a dead end so we knew the space would be available. Even with the reduced prices spent far too much, now we have to find space for them
                :noidea:.

Hot and humid here so I've spent most of the pm reading in a darkened room. More of the same tomorrow then starting to cool to mid 20s from Tuesday onwards but no rain forecast in the next 10 days. Let's hope they're wrong and we get some of the storm forecast for @Busy-Lizzie, @floralies and @Tui34.

I hope your workmen have done a good job @Goldenlily26 and that all your new plants prosper @Allotment Boy.

Great that OH is doing so much better and I like the sound of your veggie Wellington @Penny_Forthem. Our menu for the week says sticky baked sweet potato and pumpkin for tonight but it's way too hot for oven stuff so we'll be having simple salmon steaks instead, either French style with butter and tarragon or Asian with a spicy or Yakitori sauce.

We have a stray black cat wandering about now. I expect he's found and has been eating the hedgehog food I put out at night. OH and Possum have told me to leave well alone........... If he's feral he won't come anywhere near me anyway.

Good afternoon all. Too hot to think! I got the watering done and removed the lower leaves on my tomato plants and picked the ripened ones. I noticed Monty praising Gardeners Delight, which are the tomatoes I grow every year as they are prolific and delicious. My TV screen went weird during GW last night breaking up and pixelating - so much so I had to turn it off. I am putting it down to the freaky high temperatures. Even the recorded programme was affected. Today it has been behaving so I'm looking forward to The Hundred.
I sent the picture of the tiny Burnley jumper to my pregnant niece as she found out yesterday in her latest scan that they are having a little girl. She loved the jumper thinking it very cute so I'll get it sent off to her soon.
How is the work going on in your garden @Goldenlily26? As others have said, he sounds like a good'un.
Signing out for now to immerse myself in the cricket. See you all tomorrow.

I’m back from work and didn’t melt! Fake-away nearly ready so it’s feet-up and chill until Monday (well probably not feet up the whole time but you know what I mean).

I hope everyone is doing ok. Looks like the heat will fizzle out this time tomorrow. We deserve a good thunder and rain to celebrate really.

We have been applying for mature dog adoptions.
As suspected, they want people at home with no children (mainly) but those = retired = ergo too old.
                        Catch 22.
We have been sitting out, but I needed a fleece. Cooling down considerably.
Al fruit trees have had a good watering, the butts are full and the greenhouse has been fed and watered.

I hope someone will realise what you have to offer @Penny_Forthem - age (sorry) shouldn’t be a barrier if you are active and can already prove you give an active and loving life to your pets.

@Ladybird4 , Virgin a media had an outage last night, probably due to showing the first football match of the new season. TV screens were in full blown pixelation mode. Fans were fuming. TV sorted by this morning.

every summer I have this stupid argument with husband about the overhead fan. Google says for summer months the fan should turn counterclockwise. He on the other hand says Google is Wrong, it should go clockwise. Every time I sit beneath it I change it to what google says. And of course, he has to have some comment about how wrong it is if he notices. SMH

We got up early so I could drive OH to the station to catch the London train. Stopped at the paper shop at 7.30 on the way back much to the amazement of the counter lady, she's never known me to be that early before!

Had a quick coffee then watered the whole garden using hosepipes, which took nearly two hours. The front garden looks rather forlorn at the moment but the roses are still merrily flowering away - they don't seem fazed by the heat at all. After lunch I whizzed up to the GC to have a nose around their sale and came home with two waterproof cushions for our new seating area - half price so a good bargain. They didn't have any sale garden clocks left though which is a pity.

Hope you're pleased with your new steps @Goldenlily26.

I know the shop in Lacock you mean @Ergates,always makes me feel like a poor relation with my nose pressed against the windowpane! Beautiful stuff but so, so expensive.

Glad your OH has got his mojo back @Penny_Forthem but what a shame about the rescue dogs, seems so silly when there's so many that need a loving home.
