I grew the white Cobaea one year, and it did well @Escarpment, but I preferred it in bud rather then the actual flower! The seedheads were lovely too. The purple one is too pale for me.
The trees round here are just starting to get that yellow haze @pete, as opposed to looking green overall, and that's normal autumnal behaviour. Mainly beech at the moment. The big horse chestnut in the garden near me is still green, and it's right beside a mature Scots pine and a beech. Those will all have been there before the house was built. Lots of pockets of woodland which produces seed for dispersing by wind or animal. The pine drops lots of cones at this time of year, and as it's a corner site, they drop onto the road. I often pick some up for shoving into little spots for insects etc. :)
I got a pic of a nice big fungi at the foot of another mature beech when I was out my walk yesterday. Not sorted it out yet.

Some pictures from the sunbaked front garden. Grew these Gaillardia from seed; didn't manage to nurse many through as I'm not too good with seedlings yet! And the ones I planted out in the back garden didn't survive. But the front garden seems to suit them so I will try again next year.

Red Salvia - from an original £1 cutting bought from a car boot sale, I now have it all over the garden. It's definitely enjoying the front garden conditions. All the plants in the front get some watering from the washing up water every couple of days.

Last Autumn I planted a Hamamelis in the middle of the front lawn. I knew it was the wrong place and it would prefer some shade, but after the summer we had last year I'd kind of stopped believing in the sun. I've been keeping it alive with the washing up water, but the leaves are starting to turn colour now and it really doesn't look too perky. I think during the winter I will swap it with a Buddleia in the back garden which is sprawling too much and needs better sun.

Yes the buds are pretty cool. This is my first time growing them, so will look forward to the seedheads.

Beautiful. I have never heard of a scented one.
A lovely memory, and a beautiful one.

That is obviously the Oleander you sent me the cuttings of, mines still flowering away, quite large flowers.

Some colour still here, despite the lack of rain.

@Victoria a surprising number of bedding cyclamen are scented - when I see them in supermarkets, I go round sniffing to select the colours that do! Interestingly I've found quite a variation in the garden ones (hederifolium) too - some strongly scented, others nothing.
@pete I'm sure your oleander will be looking better than mine! Sadly mine doesn't appear to be scented. Was it @strongylodon who has a scented one?

@CarolineL ,the one you sent me is still a single stem, but it's flowering, it is scented when in full sun.
Even the red one I have is scented, but you need to get close for a sniff.

I guess a large shrub or hedge would have a more noticeable scent rather than a small pot plant.

@CarolineL It is this variegated double which has a strong Almond scent, the red is very weak and flowered for the first time although I have had it 5 years. The pink which is just started to flower has no scent at all. I am trying to propagate more of the variegated one.
