Managed not to doze off once this week so it must have been good (although a bit sad).

But I've noticed recently in Gardener's World & the various flower shows they'll show quick shots of flowers, often out of context, but without telling us what they are. Most of us know but there must be many people left thinking "that's nice, I'd like some of that but what is it?" eg. tonight they showed several shots of Tithonia.

I watched it this morning and enjoyed it.
I’m glad that the GW team gave the mill garden couple the chance to talk about their project and most important, he was given the chance to talk about his legacy. Very emotional, I found. The same with the Ukrainian woman.

In Spring time, Monty said that his crab apple tree has never had so many flowers as this year, and my one too. (I’m truly convinced that plants around us know much more about weather than we will ever understand).
Yesterday, Monty faced the same problem what I had: his tree had so many apples that it could break the tree and he took off some branches.
Last weekend, I had taken off almost all apples (must have been 5kg), and my tree started to recover from the heavy load. I went down this morning and pruned my tree by taking out some of the hanging new branches.

I'm amazed Longmeadow is as dry as it is. Given he lives adjacent to a floodplain I would've thought the winter rains coupled with the endless soil improvement he's done would've contributed their fair share to moisture retention. I guess it shows nowhere is immune.

I enjoyed it too, the "Windmill" garden was beautiful. His attitude to the hand he had been dealt left me with a lump in my throat.

I never thought I'd see gardening in a war zone on GW. It certainly put things like lack of rainfall into perspective. Her clematis were beautiful.

I think my favourite part of this week's show was the visit to RHS Bridgewater. I remember watching the 2 programmes about the construction and the restrictions due to the pandemic, it certainly has blossomed into a beautiful garden. One for my bucket list .

            8pm tonight.

" Monty is cutting back in the Cottage Garden to make room for annuals, harvesting tomatoes and taking sage cuttings in the Herb Garden.

Joe Swift visits a historic allotment site in Nottingham which has been brought back to life and transformed into an oasis for growers and nature lovers alike.

At her garden in Devon, Carol Klein puts together some inspirational late summer plant combinations, using colours and forms to stunning effect.

There’s a landscape architect who has taken his love of plants into every nook and cranny of his home. Plus a designer whose gardens are as edible as they are beautiful."

              And no labels, again @LunarSea

I did enjoy Carol Klein's piece but then I have just been planting a new border with purples and oranges at one end. I don't like indoor jungles - all that dust gathering and watering - so my house plants are more minimal but well-loved.

Finally caught up with the entire programme yesterday, as due to problems with Virgin Media the last half hour or so descended into a pixillated mess, and I had to watch it on iplayer.

Out of all of it, my absolute favourite bit was the shot of Carol Klein sitting on the edge of that massive raised bed. I thought it was glorious .

                    8pm tonight.

" With a bank holiday weekend to look forward to, Adam Frost has a few things to be getting on with in the garden. His mini-meadow needs some attention, he’s got an autumn container to plant up, and in the borders, there are seeds to collect.

In West Yorkshire, prairie planting is the order of the day when a retired GP shows Frances Tophill around his stunning garden. And at Long Barn Gardens in Kent, Advolly Richmond retraces the footsteps of renowned garden designer and writer Vita Sackville-West.

There’s a chef turned gardener who loves nothing more than to grow a tasty array of veg. Plus an inspiring visit to Suffolk, where a man has spent the last 14 years creating the garden of his dreams."
