I showed Mrs LS's baskets a few weeks ago but I think they're at their best right now so here they are again.

And a shot of the front of the house showing all three

A different angle showing the alcove too. The postie has a difficult job reaching our door!

20250820_174638.jpg Yes, it's a spent cosmos flower which has attracted lots of pretty goldfinches. I will need to steal some seeds for next year but will leave as many as possible for my pretty friends. :)

Once again, apologies for inundating you with photos as I haven't got around to lifting my photos off Mrs Shiney's computer.

We get quite jealous when we hear you talking of having received some rain as we have had less than five minutes of it this month and less than ten minutes last month. Despite spending a lot of time watering we have lost a lot of plants including a 40 year old bamboo, a large Ceanothus and a couple of trees.

Our main lawn looks nice and green because it is mainly weeds and also seems to get dew most mornings. The other lawns are too open to get the dew.

The Evening Primrose and Verbena don't seem to be affected by the drought and have been performing well all season. The Verbena seeds itself all over the garden and friends quite often come round to dig some up - giving donations for the charity..

These ferns seeded themselves many years ago by our front door and took advantage of our policy of 'if it isn't in the way it stays'! upload_2025-8-21_7-30-31.jpeg

A couple of weeks ago we got the first proper blooming of our Cyclamen. So I watered the Cyclamen bed and shall take some photos of it as it has developed and hope to post them today

After the watering the other day the Cyclamen bed is now starting to bloom. Some of the corms seem to have dried up in the drought and may be dead but, hopefully, as it recovers there should be very little soil showing. We sowed them about 50 years ago.

The Goji Berry is flowering. I've never had flowers this early, so maybe there's a chance of fruit this year. Whatever, it's coming out this winter and I'm putting something nicer in its place. Maybe a plum tree.

French Marigolds - they have been putting out a flower or two since I planted them in the spring, then in the last few weeks they've suddenly exploded with blooms.

My sunflowers are all determined to turn their backs on me and give my neighbour the benefit. It's nothing to do with the sun position - they are looking almost due North! I'm sure they just do it to spite me.

First flower on the Toad Lily. I bought it last year and wasn't confident it had survived the winter, so very happy to see this.

One of my very few Cosmos this year, this is an Apricotta growing among the seedheads of drumstick alliums.

Yes, these are upright like the male sweetcorn flowers, same family, but there are other Miscanthus flowers that arch downwards. This one is a recent introduction from Knoll Gardens. All it has done so far is to send up three flowers, no base leaves. I'm hoping it will be more impressive next year!
