I feel like growing some poppies for next year (sowing this autumn), partly for their flowers but also for their seeds - I do some cooking when the mood takes me and I might like to try some poppy seed recipes.

Which ones produce the most seeds?

    Thanks.

Papaver somniferum (opium poppy) produces masses of seed, a range of different varieties are available from seed suppliers.

only somniferum and rhoeus seeds are edible, the other species are mildly poisonous. there are many cultivars but make sure to get tall open flower ones (not double flowers).

sowing poppies is annoying, wet the soil first, do it very very lightly and then be careful when watering as the seeds are super tiny and need sunlight to germinate.

but once they are there they will keep self sowing! the seeds stay viable for decades

there are white edible poppy seeds but ive not seen them in person

i found this specialist Turkish White - PURE POPPIES™
