Afternoon all, last night's dinner with my brother and his partner went well I'm pleased to report - no mishaps or forgotten ingredients. To be fair, I did cheat and bought two ready meals for the main meal. They gave us two bottles of wine, one red, St Emilion and a white Sauvignan blanc, both very good. They also gave me flowers and choccies so I was very pleased.

Unfortunately I woke up early this morning with a migraine which I didn't think was fair as I'd only had 1 glass of wine last night! It's still lingering despite my migraine pills and a brisk walk to the shops and back. I got soaked coming back. OH is out all day so I'm taking it easy and will watch ETTC soon. We don't watch the Bake Off or Sewing bee programmes, not our thing.

Hope you get the results of the MRI scan soon @Goldenlily26, it's the one thing I would absolutely dread having to have, being claustrophobic. I don't even like going behind the shed as the hedge is too bear, silly, isn't it. CT and bone scans scans are fine as you're not enclosed.
Big splinters in hands must have been very painful.

What a tale of woe @Obelix-Vendée, no wonder you were cross.

The 'poppy' mugs sound very nice @Penny_Forthem. Is Gin still settling in well?

It seems Le Blocage was mostly in Paris and Brittany @Busy-Lizzie. None in la Roche which is odd as there was loads of it with the gilets jaunes a few years ago. Different people this time apparently.

I've had MRI scans for slipped lumbar and cervical discs in Belgium and for cervicals and knees in France and each time the explanations and service were really good with a CD copy done immediately for me and results straight to the consultant with a copy sent to the GP within a week or so for info. The last one was after I'd had 2 titanium knees but no bovver for cervicals and they gave me a really good soundtrack of pop/rock to listen to.

Sorry about your migraine @lizzie27. I used to get them when I was younger but now I just get the visual disturbances.

No ready meals here ever except baked beans. It only takes 10 minutes to rustle up some pasta with lardons and tomatoes or broccoli and cashews once the kettle has boiled. Other than that, I do batch cook and freeze portions of bolognese sauce for winter.

I like bone china mugs too @Penny_Forthem and had a set of RHS ones with botanical drawings on them but only 1 left and they no longer make them. I still have a few with drawings of cats on them so am OK for a while. OH and Possum like clunky mugs.

We've had another good downpour today so the soil will be perfect for sowing dill and fennel and chard but I'm on duty tomorrow and Saturday manning the stand. Garden group outings on Sunday, if I have the energy.

20250911_174418.jpg @lizzie27, yes Gin is settling in thank you.
Our favourite pub for Saturday lunch is closed for chef's holidays, so we're going to a new one and taking Gin for socialisation. Apparently, we're in the snug "with biscuits, water and a blanket for your furbaby".
Heaven help us. He's a dog.
        An endearing ginger lump!
        He's a right little poser

Evening everyone. You’ve been chatty. Gin is looking particularly adorable there @Penny_Forthem.

I survived my first day back in work. Study day today so only stretched my brain not my feet, but tomorrow is a full 12 hours of physical and mental workout.

Just awaiting an early supper which will include apple crumble. Have a lovely evening folks.

I hope the new shoes are up to the job @AuntyRach. It's a long time since I've done a 12 hour day. Gardening doesn't count.

Gin is such a handsome boy @Penny_Forthem and I particularly like his little white bit on the top of his head. He certainly looks in better condition now than the first pic you posted after you had just adopted him. Your TLC is working well.
Glad your meal went well @lizzie27 but sorry about the migraine. I have never suffered from those type of headaches but I've heard that they can be very debilitating.

We were busy at Food Bank, dealing with 4 couples and 3 singles. One of the coordinators informed us today that since January 1st and September 1st this year we have fed a total of 251 adults and 114 children. Today we also fed 6 cats and 1 dog! Hope you enjoyed your apple crumble @AuntyRach and I can remember my Grandms's steamed suet dumplings served with golden syrup. A real blast from the past reading all the posts here. I am signing out for this evening and I'll see you all tomorrow.

A very good - if soaking wet like here - morning one and all. It is getting cooler and cooler here but I am still resisting putting the heating on for a boost. I am not too sure I will be holding out much longer though  I am supposed to be at Canasta today but I won't be going if its raining and I need to make some parkin for Sunday. I completed my six posies yesterday and once the light is better I will take a picture. I hope you all have interesting and happy days.

                    Good morning to you all!

After a reasonably sunny week, today is proving to be rather overcast. No wind.

Glad to read back and see that everyone is busyish and getting things done.

The French are sooooo French, aren't they? @Obelix-Vendée and it didn't surprise me to read about "Didier". There are plenty of them down here. The French have rules but no one adheres to them. Lateness here is the norm. I don't know why they bother with SatNav!!

Gin looks such a nice fella @Penny_Forthem He must have been waiting for you all along!
                    Destiny is a funny thing.

Speaking of TV presenters - I'm not keen on Alison Hammond, but I watch the programme she presents anyway.

Ready meals are a rarity for me too but I bought a tin of ravioli as a stand-by (sometimes I like something akin to school cantine food!) It was 2 euros at the checkout. Supermarket brand but that will put an end of ready meals. Probably full of salt and preservatives.

I have my grandmother's recipe for Spotted Dick and I love a steamed pud, in fact I have some of her "tattered/dog-eared" recipe books with super recipes. (When coconut, was spelled cocoanut). I make her tomato sauce (ketchup) every year and people I "allow" to use, just love it. My late husband - a confirmed Mediterranean, loved meat pies, braised kidneys and steamed puddings with custard etc.

I decided to try "in-line" dancing, as I'm not allowed to do any gym yet. So off I went yesterday afternoon on my bike when, halfway down - a puncture!! I then discovered that I had forgotten my water bottle, and it was hot. Anyway, enjoyed the class, so will take it up. Good for the brain and I need to do something active. When I got home, I called my gentle S. African rugby player to change the inner tube for me. He came with his wee girls - they love Fizz and in a moment, the bike was fixed and brakes tightened. A mere breeze to upturn the bike when you are over 6ft and 100kgs of muscle!!

I'd better get cracking as I'm going to look at new glasses this morning with some different frames - for a change. I've had the same for about 6 years, so maybe a change.

I hope you all have a pleasant start to the weekend.

Good morning @Tui34 - well we all know it is a picture of @Penny_Forthem with Gin!
I'm pleased I got sorted so quickly at Spooksavers and I have opted to go back to grey reactolite lenses with these new specs because of the frame colour. I have brown in the present pair.
p.s. I do not know who Alison Hammond is - oops!

A bit of a non day for me. Very heavy downpours and gale force wind all day. Grey, overcast and raining this morning so far.
I watered the greenhouse, picked a few tomatoes and beans and picked up the windfalls. I picked a few apples to give my neigbour, I also gave her some windfalls to cook with, along with some beans.
I made myself a toad in the hole for dinner, with runner beans and onion gravy.
My daughter is taking me to the Duchy of Cornwall GC this morning. They have had a big refurb. and she is looking for a venue for her dive club's Christmas meal. I am sure we will need sustenance while there, to try out their current menu. The food has always been good in the
                          past.
My croquet club's Finals weekend has been cancelled due to Storm Amy coming through. A shame after all of the lovely weather we have had this summer. The decider matches of the internal club competitions are played, everyone is invited to go and watch, take a plate of food for the tea table/sharing and the trophies are presented so a very social, jolly, get together, catch up time for everyone.
It is re-scheduled for next weekend but my son and D in L will be here so I will not be going.
Have a good weekend all, batten down ready for Amy blowing through!

                            Good morning all.

Gin is such a gorgeous colour @Penny_Forthem. I hope he enjoyed the pub. I'm another liker of bone china mugs.

@Ladybird4 Alison Hammond presents "Bake Off" with Noel Fielding. I don't really care for her either but I watch the programme.

We are going to the weekly market. Need some fresh veg. I only have spinach, tomatoes and beetroot in the garden but soon there will be another cucumber.

                              Good morning all.

I'm busy prepping for the Forum this weekend - printing info and labels and packing up goodies. Set to be fine and dry today but damp tomorrow with winds upto 40kph late afternoon. La Roche-s-Y has decided that's too exciting and has just postponed its forum to next Satrurday - really helpful for all the clubs needing people to man stands and do demos!

@Tui34 the French and Belgians seem to like their "quart d'heure académique" as a reason to arrive 15 minutes late for everything but our outgoing secretary is of Portuguese origin and increasingly takes 30 minutes. She also needs 3 hours to get ready in the morning - coffee, breakfast, clean kitchen, shower, clean bathroom etc. A bit "maniaque" as they say here.

I don't like Alison Hammond either @Busy-Lizzie but still watch Bake Off, where she's fairly watered down, whilst avoiding anything else she's in.

I hope rain doesn't stop play @Ladybird4. I shall be making Parkin for the patch club on the nearest Monday to Bonfire Night. Much too warm for it before then but some need educating about ginger in cakes.

When I began taking Rob into pubs, restaurants,, tea rooms etc. he used to try and see off any other dogs. Eventually I used to take an old anorak of mine, spread it on the floor under the table and encourage him that was his patch, not the whole room. He soon learned and rarely caused much commotion after, except if another dog "dared" to put their head under "his" table!

I also am not keen on Alison Hammond. I think she co-presents one of the morning shows and recently had a show of her own for a few weeks. I watch Bake Off but none of the other programs.
There are a lot of new game shows running at present I do not watch because I do not like the presenters. Why do they have to sceam and shout instead of talk? Spin The Wheel for example.
