We never insured our dogs as they were both rescues with unknown pasts. They said rasta was 11 months old but I always assumed her 1st of April birthday was a refuge guess and Bonzo was 2.5 to 3. Vets in Belgium and France are much cheaper anyway than in the UK where bills could be eye watering even when we left in 1991.

The annual vaccines and health checks are not covered by insurance anyway and nor were the dogs' arthritis supplements and, as in Belgoum, everyone has to have civil liability insurance and that covers anything our dogs might have done as well as people tripping in the road alongside our verge and other such things that fall under "unintentional harm".

got back from Canada last night. all well. Cobble Beach is a beautiful part of the world, the Georgia Bay awesome. We got the proper paperwork from the car show place so that no border guards even wanted to look inside the trailer, good thing, don't need some guy with sharp belt buckle moving about that car hurting the paint.
Was able to meet up with a friend of ours who lives in Buffalo, N.Y. for lunch. was lovely.
Home for about 4 days then I have to head down to North Carolina to take care of stuff.
For now, stuff around here, food shop, laundry, tidy up more . and other who knows what. Leaves are falling, might arrange a company to help, at least the front property section. Take care all.

I have picked apples and my hedgerow jelly fruit is cooking. I've used a few sloes, bullace, damsons and Bramleys, plus 2 cinnamon sticks. Will let it strain overnight.

Afternoon all. I hope all is well.

Shopped and flopped today. Did manage half hour garden pottering too. There’s a few mushrooms about after all the damp weather. I found some Cyanoboletus pulverulentus ones in the wild grassy bit in the front. Amazing things that turn blue when broken and exposed to the air. Toxic and contain arsenic I believe. Thumbnail attached.

Haven't seen anything like that here @AuntyRach.

We have a few common whie mushrooms popping up now that we've had a few dribbles. OH is happy to eat them but not me. I like them button and not opened into flat caps and preferably chestnut/brown. My favourites are morels in spring but, like ceps, they are fiendishly expensive, even dried. Possum thinks she doesn't like any mushrooms so I have to hide them. None of us like truffles.

Not watching the rugby and no GW so recordings tonight. Humph!

That's just what I've thought Obelix! Finished dinner and have sat down with a coffee and some choccie to wait for GW at 8pm and it's not on!!! Pah.

Quite tired tonight as I went into town for a haircut. lst bus didn't arrive so had to wait half an hour for the 2nd one - good job I'd left the house early. From leaving the house to arriving at the hairdressers took an hour and it's only 3 miles. Sitting in the hairdressers was a bit hair raising as a huge lorry delivering mattresses to the hotel's trades entrance opposite didn't have enough room to reverse so came within literally 3 inches from the Grade 11 listed bow window. I think the poor driver made 6 or more attempts to reverse before he eventually made it but then hit the opposite, also listed, building when he came out. There are Georgian vaults under the roads in the centre of Bath mainly held up by acro props including at my hairdressers. I rather wanted to move out my chair thinking that if the window went, we'd both be showered with glass splinters but my hairdresser needed to get me done.

After that, I needed coffee so headed for M&S and treated myself to my favourite iced cinnamon
bun to go with it. I bought some Autograph shorts for OH at 70% off but couldn't find anything for myself unfortunately - or fortunately as far as my bank balance is concerned. I was home by 2pm but didn't do anything else.

The rugby match was absolutely electric. Sorry @Tui34 but the Black Ferns didn't make it. It was such an exciting contest to witness. Red Roses v Les Bleuettes tomorrow. Hope it is another wonderful match. Good night all. See you tomorrow.

Good morning everyone. I have to go into town this morning to pick up my new specs and its raining! Deep joy! Hopefully it is not too heavy but its still early so could improve by the time I have to leave.
Goodness @lizzie27 I think I would have been holding my breath watching that lorry reversing. I do have to say that I am always impressed when I see these drivers manoeuvering huge wagons into spaces I wouldn't like to guide my car!

Good morning. We had a brief storm in the night with one clap of thunder so loud it even woke OH (going deaf) and tripped the top row of our fuse box. Cloudy now but mild and I don't think there was much rain but I shall go and see if it's OK to transplant the older trawberries to join the new ones in the new bed. Need to do some apple pruning too.

OH rotavated my new rose and clems bed yesterday - I've only been asking for 8 years but then I found some old weedkiller when I was clearing the garden shed a few weeks ago and used it and he finally took the hint. Only 2 barrows of stones excavated but no doubt more when I dig the planting holes. Manure first tho.

Some of these HGV drivers are magicians aren't they? Our coach driver for the Somerset gardens trip was too, squeezing our coach down roads with parked cars or walls or narrow hedgerows with just a mm or two to spare either side. Then there are the ones like the chap who delivered our new freezer in a small truck - didn't think he could get thru our gates which are wide enough for fullsize removal trucks, oil delivery tankers and lorries delivering chipped wood for mulching so he reversed in as far as the gates then bunged it on a trolley to come up the drive.

Hope everyone gets some good gardening weather.

I was very grateful I decided to insure Rob, his treatment ran into a few thousand. I ended up having to pay for some of it from my own pocket as his cover ran to the max. I could claim, but every little helps these days!
I hate tattoos. I also think of what they will look like when the owners body is shrivelled and wrinkly.
I cancelled my regular appoinments. with the hairdresser I have used for many years, £49.00 for a shampoo and cut, and booked into a small hairdresser much closer to where I live. A big mistake. My first few cuts were fine but the young woman left to have a baby, my last cut is awful. I cannot do a thing with my hair at the moment.
I had a lovely time with the family. We went to The Pinetum in St Austell. Very sad. The now, no longer new, owners have run it down a lot. The tearooms have been shuttered closed, although the new toilet facilities are impressive, the gift shop/office has disappeared, some of the old greenhouses have gone, no plants sales of note and to sit and have a cup of tea they have put up two marquees. The gentleman serving us looked as if he wished he was somewhere else, could be the new owner. The food was OK, pasties and cakes, coffee and tea, but the tables were so rickety we had to change tables to stop our cups being emptied, the table rocked so much.
We then went to Golant and had lunch in a riverside pub. As it was Friday, it was fish day. What a good job I didn't order fish and chips, the portion of fish I saw go to the next table almost covered the whole plate. We all had different dishes, mine was fresh crab salad, very enjoyable. We stood and listened to a curlew calling when we went back to the car, a real treat. Very tired when I came home.
As I have accumulated another bag of Rob's belongings, jackets, leads, harnesses and treats etc. we are taking them to the RSPCA centre when we "might" have a look at any new cats they may have in, and then going for coffee.
When I went out I had a quick look to see if the poo bags I left by No 1 were still there, they had disappeared but another pile of several bags were there, I assume left by my next door neighbour who told me she is constantly picking up after No 1's dogs.
My order of trousers was supposed to have been delivered while I was out but I couldn't find the parcel anywhere so have had to chase them up as to where the parcel was left. No card was left saying where the delivery person had hidden it, just an email saying it had been delivered and a pretty picture of a parcel, no doorway or steps etc.
I watched Masterchef in the evening, I still have no idea which person will win.
Strictly begins this Sat. I do not usually watch the first two episodes as they are taken up with introducing the new celebrities taking part, very few of whom I recognise or have even heard of.
It is pouring with rain and forecast for all day. Yuck!
                        Have a good day everyone.

                          Good morning all.

Must finish stacking the logs. It was hot work yesterday. Cloudy today, forecast said dry but it has already rained. Storm this evening.

This afternoon I will make a lemon tart and a chocolate roulade to take to daughter 2 tomorrow for lunch.

Morning all, thankfully our weather forecast has changed from heavy rain to light rain by lunchtime which is good as we're due to have lunch with friends. I'm not sure what to wear though as it's 15c outside but the old pub can be cold inside. Probably layers then.

Some of our delivery drivers do that @Goldenlily26 and it's quite entertaining to work out from the photo which of our neighbours' front doors our parcel has been left beside. Sounds as though you had a good day out with family though it's a shame about the Pinetum, I think I remember that as we used to holiday in Cornwall when I was young - much younger!!

We've got quite a long, narrow drive with a small stone wall/higher flower bed one side and a fence the other side. Unfortunately for some unknown reason, it gets slightly narrower in the middle which often catches trucks out. The driver then finds out he actually can't get out of his door!

Well, I'd better get ready. Have a good day folks.
