    Thank you @Golarne.

I've had a rest then made the chocolate roulade and the lemon tart is in the oven.

I always admire well stacked wood @Busy-Lizzie but we only light our fire a few times each winter so have a very measly stack made of branches we find in the garden and twigs for kindling. You deserve a long hot shower and decent glass of wine after all that.

I did some sewing - maple leaf patchwork in autumn colours to make a table runner - then went out to give the chooks their Saturday treat of bacon rinds and was very pleased to find all my new strawberry plants standing to attention.

Then I went and collected some seed from my fiery burnt orange and scarlet California poppies and pulled up nearly all the big sunflowers at the south end of the big new bed. Huge rootballs on some of them. Thence to my nursery where I cleaned up my 7 asparagus babies ready for planting out next week and pulled out and weeded and pruned 14 rose pots and 2 clematis ready for wheeling up to their new bed for planting next week.

I am now bloodied and battered and bathed in iodine half way up my arms and it's started to rain but not a lot.

Now for a cuppa and a shower. Have a pleasant evening everyone.

        Impressive stacking there @Busy-Lizzie
My hedgerow jelly is done, 13 x 110ml jars and 3 x 300. Plenty for gifts and us. Very pleased with the clarity and colour.
We are going to my fave hotel for a couple of nights for my birthday and we'd booked an expensive room. We had a special offer through today... a double room for £49 , b and b for 2. So i cancelled our posh room and booked an ordinary (but still nice) one and saved us £200. Bargain.

Good evening all. I have to say @Busy-Lizzie is that you won't need to pay gym fees stacking wood like that - very neat too. Just watching the intro to Strictly and as per usual I only know of two competitors - the rugby player Chris Robshaw who I obviously know from his sport and the other is the footballer who I only know from hearing his name on TV. The others - who knows??

When is it your birthday @Penny_Forthem? That was well spotted about your rooms and an excellent saving.

Goodness, that's an awful lot of logs @Busy-Lizzie, rather you than me!

Hope your arms don't sting too much @Obelix-Vendée. Rose thorns can be so very painful sometimes.

We enjoyed our lunch with friends from the car club, ten of us altogether, three of them now widows of past members unfortunately, a sign of how old we're getting as a group I suppose. There was another large table of about ten, including 4 children and the noise levels got a bit unbearable for me so I was glad to leave by the end.

We should have swopped our hotel tomorrow with yours @Penny_Forthem, sounds like you got an excellent deal. I've no idea what to pack with the weather so variable so will probably pack for every eventuality.

Good morning everyone. To our friend @lizzie27 and her OH
                  Happy Anniversary.jpg
Fingers crossed I have the correct day! I hope that you have a wonderful day filled with happy memories.
I regret to say that I got thoroughly bored with all the shrieking and 'fake' displays of affection that was part of the introduction to Strictly last night. That's just me being a grouch though!
The meeting that never was last Wednesday is due to be held after Church this morning so I will have to take my notepad ready to take the minutes. I am pleased to say that there is a dry start to the morning after yesterday's torrential rain, which was so reminiscent of the monsoons I experienced as a child in Kuala Lumpur.
p.s. I just spotted that I had classified @lizzie27's OH as 'her OK' by mistake! Then again, I guess he must have been that too! :) I hope everyone has a marvellous Sunday.

Good morning. Bright, sunny and clear so far and we've had 4.5mm - just under a quarter of an inch of rain - overnight.

I hope you enjoyed your meal and the company more than you were bothered by the noise @lizzie27 and that you enjoy your anniversary celebrations.

Same for me @Ladybird4 but I've spotted the ones I hope do well, the one that looks wooden and needs to soften up and get some rhythm and the one I want voted off first cos he's just awful all over and my life is too short for oiks like that.

We had thunderstorms and lots of rain in the night.

Off to my daughter soon for lunch. They have 3 children 16, 13 and 6. I must whip cream and spread it into the chocolate roulade and roll it up. Leamon tart is ready.

I didn't feel like watching the first episode of Strictly. We watched the rest of the Poirot that we'd started instead.

I am not sure what sort of day I had yesterday. It was lovely to be with the 'kids'. We went to the RSPCA centre and delivered the bag of goodies. They allowed us to go and see the new arrival cats, there was a beautiful Siamese X Burmese with wonderful colouring and markings, very friendly and the most beautiful blue eyes, but not available yet as he was taken in as a neglect case, which is going to court, so it could be several months, if not longer, before he can be rehomed. His matts were so bad he had to be shaved, his coat has begun to grow back but he looks very tatty at the moment. I could have put my name down against him as interested, but I thought of the upkeep of his lovely coat, and I also felt I was wishing my cat dead.
We went on, or intended going on, to Watergate Bay for lunch but came across road closed signs and diversion signs so we headed for Fistral Beach instead. It was chaos. Like a hot, mid summer day. The car park was full and there were people everywhere, especially on the beach, despite it being wet and miserable, where a life-saving competition was being held. We went to a Rick Stein Fish cafe, no seats inside, so we said we would sit outside, under their canopy, with the heater on, wrapped up in fleece throws. As they were very busy our order took some time to arrive by which time a squall had come in and we were getting cold and wet,the staff managed to squeeze us inside just as a downpour started. We had to free the table quickly as it was pre booked so we ate our meal and then went on to the Tartan Fox for coffee.
It is lovely this morning, blue sky and sunshine. I am shattered. The kids are doing their own thing today, picking me up to go to my daughter's for a late Sunday dinner.
I watched some of Strictly, vaguely recognised a couple of faces but could not have put a name to anyone. Why do they have to scream and gush so much?
My son asked me if I remembered 'this'. He showed me a pic.on his phone of an old metal flour dredger. Oh my, it was mine, bought when first married as far as I recall. He said he had found it when clearing his father's house, he remembered it from when he was little and we used to cook together. I am sure I would have bought it from a charity shop, pennies were short in those days. The oddest items can hold so many memories.
I love your log pile Busy Lizzie. I do not have anywhere to store logs, I suppose I should have invested in a shed for that purpose. There used to be a coal hole but it ran with water so I filled it in. My neighbour uses an old horse box to store her logs. No wonder you needed a rest after stacking that lot. Well done.
Today is going to be a recovery day. My back does not enjoy sitting at tables for long periods.

                          Morning from a sparkling Wales.
Happy anniversary @lizzie27 and Mr Lizzie!
Not a Strictly watcher and I hate gushing so that's a double no!
Hub tripped going down the stairs last night. He was walking wounded, but is in agony this morning. Don't think he's done anything that needs medical treatment, but he's certainly not going to be doing anything off the jobs list today.

Ouch @Penny_Forthem ! Hope he heals well.

When we moved here the back room downstairs had been used as a playroom as Madame was a pre-school childminder. I decided it would make a good bedroom for when our knees got too old to do stairs and so we built on a shower room at the back. Turned out to be fortuitous as I had an arthritis crises and needed prosthetic knees in 2022 and 23. Possum has been living here too since we rescued her from Covid isolation in Belgium so she gets her own bathroom upstairs.

Busy day @Goldenlily26 but some good family memories. Well deserved rest today.

So far I've managed to identify some of my roses in pots and find their size and colour on the 'net so I can start thinking about placements. Half of them are donated and grown from cuttings so a surprise. OH has been sent off to weed and fork over the ex potato bed so I can add manure and prep it for my baby asparagus plants - grown from seed in spring so they'll need nurturing and growing on for a couple of years.
