That's lucky @CanadianLori - I find them really cheery flowers, and they can get surprisingly tall, so look even better.

Thanks @CarolineL I imagine we have similar growing conditions, I’ll give them a go.
That’s a coincidence @CanadianLori it’ll be interesting to see how you get on

Oh Pembrokeshire! I wouldn't be surprised if they stay flowering deep into winter for you @Golarne ! I had them in rural Nottinghamshire and they were good. I started the seed off in trays in greenhouse and planted out when safe.

Oh my. How tall do they grow please @CarolineL ? I have a small garden and worry about letting flowers be too proud for their neighbours and making things too busy to enjoy.

I've had them about a metre or so, but if pinched out you can probably keep them lower. They're not too vigorous and quite open in structure (mine were anyway).

Today I bought this sweet little holy fern, and a star jasmine (the latter was reduced to clear).

It's my autumn number two in this house and now I'm finally allowed to buy Alliums :hapydancsmil:

They are my favourite plants just after ferns. So, 10 Purple Sensations from Home Bargains to go here and there rather than in a group as I like to see the shape alone, from Jparkers some Spaerochepaleons to go behind the pond (they are just the shape and height amongst ferns and whatnot) Stipatum (the tall ones), Azureum (no idea where they will go but I like blue) and three big headed ones just because

Some other bits and bobs sneaked their way into my JParker's basket too, I have long admired the black bamboo and as it was on offer I succumbed. It'll go into a container on the patio.

The tiny fern has stolen my heart as we pass an old stone wall in our walks- at some point I'll have that kind of wall but for now the fern will do. Apparently it can be used on green roof, which is on my "will build some day"- list.

I also had a brilliant plan to fill the raised bed with tulips and daffs mainly for cut flowers. Tulips are annual in here, in particular in clay like mine, so I'll wait until end-season offers for them.

Tulips should be over when the veg are ready to go in... I hope.

Today I bought another half whiskey barrel from B&M for £24.99

                    20250921_111648.jpg

I drilled drainage holes, painted it black so that it blends in with the fencing and moved two rather unhappy plants there, hoping they will do better. I might add a third one at some point.

@Valleysgirl carnations are my very favourite scent. I used to enjoy the smell as a lovely bit of grief relief when entering a funeral home. Too bad they all seem to go for the "unscented" ones now. That is a fantastic find!

Yesterday I bought some plants, but mainly went for pots.

T'other Half wants to know what this beauty called Rustico costs in the UK ... (40cm wide)

What about this half pot 30x18) with the Carissa I bought in it ...

@Victoria you can buy clay pots reasonably cheaply here but they are not frost proof and imported.
Not a problem for you but if you want frost proof stuff its pretty expensive.

I just saw a similar pot to your big one in a GC yesterday. £60. And I'm sure it's not frost proof as the colour is too red - the well fired ones are much paler.
